Reduce Triggers

G'day Guys,

     I have been checking around but cant find anything around a small issue i have with Power Automate. I have a flow that sends a message into Teams when a SharePoint file has been updated. Problem is it keeps sending the notification into Teams over and over. I would only want a single instance, ie the first update only, and then maybe a pause of 10 minutes before another update check etc. A single user could modify the SharePoint file over and over, and with the autosave functionality enabled, it will post into Teams over and over. Maybe I can set/use a variable in the flow, but I can't quite grasp how to get this to work as I imagine the variable will only be defined in it own flow, and will not have scope in any subsequent instance.

I don't believe so, but that doesn't mean it's not possible...  I'd still suggest a scheduled flow instead! Maybe someone else will pop in to let us know.

How many files / libraries / sites is this flow watching? 

 

I'd recommend using a recurring flow - once every 2  hours or so - that looks for anything that was modified in the last 2 hours, and sends a condensed message. Ie, "The following files were updated in the past 2 hours" and then have a table with the files and the names / times of modification (if needed.) 

Otherwise, you'd need to have a list (of all the files that have sent notifications) or another piece of metadata ("notification sent within last 2 hours") to track the files... this is a bit cleaner, I think 🙂

G'day There,

     Thank you for the response. Yes, something like this would help capture everything and provide for a clear list of changes.

        Is there a way to reduce the rate of fire for a single flow, ie change the Peek code etc. My account is set for a 1 minute refresh, but a 15 minute run-interval would be adequate for this particular flow. I have even tried turning the flow off, delaying for 10 minutes, and then turning it back on in the flow itself, but I find that new triggers are just queued waiting for the flow to turn back on. This is a low priority notification, so a crude method like this would still suffice if I could get it working.

I don't believe so, but that doesn't mean it's not possible...  I'd still suggest a scheduled flow instead! Maybe someone else will pop in to let us know.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!    This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
