Send email with options does not wait for response, immediately completes

I'm trying to experiment with the send email with options. From what I'm seeing, it should wait on a response that is selected from the email it sends out before continuing on with the Flow.

When I run my flow, it is instantly completing it with my second option as the selected option (completed and not needed, it is always selected not needed).

Am I missing something painfully obvious?

Please provide a screenshot showing your Flow's configuration.  It should wait for a selected option.  I don't see anything wrong with what you are trying to do.

Here is one of the branches, the other branch does the same thing but for a different user and will update a different column in the sharepoint list.

The update items are just assigning the confim or not needed values to a sharepoint column depending on which is selected.

I don't see anything wrong with your setup other than it looks like there is no space after the comma in your options, but I don't think that matters.

Hi @jparis

Use SelectedOption dynamic output from send email with options action in your if condition

Thanks for pointing that out, I've updated that, but it still immediately completes the action instead of waiting for a response.

Hi @jparis

Try creating another flow to test it out

this surely looks like a bug

the action by default waits for  a response

Created a fresh one in a new list as well with just a title column and a choice (status) column. Same thing, instantly selects the not needed option.image.png

Hi @jparis

can u share screenshot of the Flow run (not the Flow in edit mode)

All of a sudden instead of selecting the not needed option, it is automatically selecting Completed. I made sure to even close Outlook and OWA.

@jparis

Weird

Might be a bug

raise a support ticket for this

Hi @jparis ,

What is your current situation?

I did a test on my side and I am unable to reproduce a similar issue.

Have you tried using other user's email address to do similar tests?  Check if it is related to the specified email address.

Please take a try.

I have a ticket open and they've seen the issue reproduced, just waiting on a followup.

Did you get this issue solved? I'm experiencing the same thing

No. Flow support said they had fixed the issue on the back end, tested it and nothing had changed. After that response, they kicked it over to Office365 support saying the issue is on the Outlook side..

Hi Team,

I am using send email with two options "Proceed and Cancel" , in this case its not waiting for any response and just process the next configured step, and during this if the receiver selects any options in mail, He also receives error message.

But if i use only one option "Proceed", it waits and works as expected.

Attaching the error message screenshot on option selection and process without wait.1.png2.png

is there a solution for this ? i encounter this problem as well.

i need the responses from users in another tenant, therefore the approval connector does not help me

Hi Daniel,

I've also used the Approval connector as a workaround, because I don't think the issue is flow related. Let me try to enlighten you on what I think is going on:

When flow sends an email with options, it basically adds the options in the email body as HTTP url links. These links point to the backend of flow. Once one of the links is opened/clicked, flow registers the url from the link being requested, and registers this as an answer.

In my case (and I'm willing to bet it's similar for you), there an email gateway (mimecast) that does some security checks on the incoming emails. One of those checks verifies if links in the emails are secure and not pointing to some dangerous website. An unfortunate side effect of this verification, is that the answers in the flow emails get triggered, because the links are being requested.

That means that the real way to solve this issue, is to get in contact with admins managing the email gateway, and ask them to whitelist the mails from flow. In this way the links are not checked and the answers won't be triggered by the verification.

A way for MS Flow to solve this, would be to implement a page behind that link where you have to click a confirmation button (which would then look a bit like the approvals page).

Hope this helps

  • I managed to come up with a solution for this under your advanced options on send mail with options

The use only HTML message needs to be yes

Hide HTML must be No

Show HTML confirmation must be yes

And you good to go😊

Amazing, this is working. @Anonymous  thank you so much 🙂 . time to build.
