To name the excel file using today's date.

Hi

i am trying to save the excel in my mail (outlook 365) into a folder in sharepoint

i want to be able to rename the file as it gets saved into the folder, such that the excel will be saved as "ABC 22 JUL 2022.xls" on the day when it is being saved in the folder (say 22 JUL 2022)

How can i amend this using expression or formula to achieve this in "file name"?

Maybe you can try this method. 

concat(Your dinamic content attachment name, convertFromUtc(utcNow(),'Your time zone name eg Eastern European Time', 'dd MMM yy'))

Hi @Anonymous , 

Just check that if you get just the extension of the file from dynamic content. 

If not, then you  can use Split function to separate out the file name + file extension. 

Your expression would come something like below:

Split(FileName, '. ')

Above expression will provide you result like below in array format

VarFileArr = ['file name', 'xlsx']

Now in Sharepoint action under file name field , you will provide something like below

Concat(VarFileArr[0], formatdatetime(UtcNow(), "dd mmm yy"),'.',VarFileArr[1]) 

Above expression is such an idea to build the logic, you will get the exact syntax when you type in power automate. 

This will solve your problem

Hi i am sorry, totally newbie.

i entered the expression "Concat(VarFileArr[0], formatdatetime(UtcNow(), "dd mmm yy"),'.',VarFileArr[1]) "

under File name like this:

 and i got the file saved like this:

how should i enter the expression correctly to save the excel attachment in a name that i want?

Also, is there a "dynamic" expression that can put the date (today) on the excel file name saved?

Example today is 22 JUL 2022, the file name will be ABC 22 JUL 2002

and if this runs tomorrow the email tomorrow will give us a file saved excel attachment ABC 23 JUL 2022

Find the steps below:

1- Suppose my file name is ABC.xlsx, I have taken inside Compose action like below

2- Now split the above file name

Input :  split(outputs('Compose_-_File_Name'),'.')

Note : outputs('Compose_-_File_Name') --output from step1 compose, you will get it from dynamic content.

Output of above action:

3- Prepare the final file name.

Input : 

outputs('Compose_-_Split_the_File_Name')?[0]_formatDateTime(utcNow(),'dd MMM yy').

outputs('Compose_-_Split_the_File_Name')?[1]

You need to prepare the below expression and use the expression tab to insert.

1- outputs('Compose_-_Split_the_File_Name')?[0] : 

To prepare the above expression, get the output from step 2 like below

@{outputs('Compose_-_Split_the_File_Name')} - remove @{ }  and append ?[0] to get the file name ex. ABC

2- formatDateTime(utcNow(),'dd MMM yy')

output : 23 Jul 22

3- outputs('Compose_-_Split_the_File_Name')?[1]

prepare the same way as step 1, but here you need to append ?[1]

Note : Above expressions you need to put inside expression tab only

You can use these compose action just above the Create file action
