Blank entries in table when Business Required is turned on

I have turned on "Business Required" on a text Field.  I have a canvas app that is mis-behaving and i just discovered has created entries in the table where this field is blank.  I read somewhere that this is a feature of dataverse (Ugh!).

How can i prevent blank entries in field in Dataverse Tables.  For auditing and compliance, i need to be 100% sure that no blanks will show up in this field

the requirement level (Optional, Business Recommended, Business Required) is only enforced at client-side of model-driven apps. Is not enforced in Canvas apps or records created by the API.

If you want to enforce everywhere you will need to create a server-side check (plugin, classic workflow, maybe a Business Rule with Entity scope) to check if the field has value or not.

This is very disappointing - i thought dataverse was more robust than this.  I will look into Business Rules i guess (i have no idea how this works with Canvas apps) , but this does not sound like a good way to meet a regulatory compliance issue.  I don't understand why this is not a low level feature of a dataverse table.  This seems to be a very basic and essential requirement for any Data or information storage system.

OK -  so i added a business rule to the table , now the Canvas app throws a "network error" if the field in blank.  Not ideal, but at least the Business Rule seems to be preventing the record from being created with the field in question blank.  This will be tough to troubleshoot in 6 months when i forget what i did and it starts throwing this error though
