Delete column prevented

Hi guys,

What to do when I want to delete a column, they say there is dependency, but when I check Show Dependency, it is because entity relationship, not about the column it self ?

Should I delete the relationship ? It is feel weird because there is no relation between the field I want to delete and the entity's key field.

Hi @Axal ,

If it is a N:N relationship then yes, delete it.  Otherwise if you have this column as a lookup on another table, you need to delete the lookup from the other table and then publish all customizations.  After this you will be able to delete the column from the table.

No, it is 1:N, and the column I want to delete is at the N side.

But as mentioned, the column actually not even related, it is not the key, it's just one of the columns in that table of N side.

Hi @Axal ,

If you have the column on the Many (N) side you can just delete the column from that table and it will automatically remove the relationship.  

Example:

Table 1

   Name

   Phone

   Address

Table 2

    Name

    Table1 Name (Lookup Column)

    Total Amount

    My Date

In the situation above you can just remove the Name column from the table 2 (which is the N) side.  You would not need to remove the relationship, it will remove it automatically if you remove that column.  

Am I understanding?  If it is just a column like the My Date column then you can just remove the column, don't remove anything else.

My thought exactly. Anyway it is still prompt me that there is a dependency prevent for delete the column.

And as I show Dependency, it is only show the entity relationship component, something like this actually :

The column about to delete is the top -> Date and the table name is the one in the grid with grid name "Dependent entity", so this column depend on the entity it self ?

Is this related to the fact that this column is Date and there are some other field created upon adding this Date column ?

Another thing is this entity is linked to my Dynamics Finance using Dual-write method, but I have stop the process, even delete the dual-write mapping field over there. So as I know of, no processes attached to this field.

Is Dataverse also checking this field is in Javascript ?

Hi @Axal ,

Is this field on the Expense or the Expense Detail table that you are trying to delete?   Can you verify if you have any Attribute Mapping rules in place that is mapping this field from the parent to the child entity?

The "Date" field I want to delete is in "Expense Detail" table which is the N side.

BUT, you are right! 

There is actually a hard  mapping in back which I must switch to Classic View. Hoping Microsoft can sort this out sooner, so we don't need to switch back and forth, and no information missing as the default view always the new view.

I've delete the hard mapping from classic view and able to delete.
