Filter option set with Textbox Text

Im trying to Filter an option set using a Textbox as a Filter  (for filtering a gallery connected to my cds).

My Syntax does work with oher types already expect using it on option set 

 

 

   If(
        Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "Device";
        SortByColumns(
            Filter(Inventorydata
                ;
           //Error   Textbox.Text in Device
            );
            "crda1_device";
            If(
                SortDescending1;
                SortOrder.Descending;
                SortOrder.Ascending
            )
        )
    )

 

 

Code explanation : 

- dropdown1 value = the datafield I want to filter

- filter functions = filters with the input of my textbox

- last if function =  sorting ascending or descending.

 

So how can I implentend the filtering on option sets without calling them manually ? 

for example:  instead of "Device.Laptop" it should be "Device.TextBox.Text"  

 

Like this my user can just type "La" for filtering the gallery

From your screenshot, you are trying to use Business Rules to do this.  Unfortunately, Business Rules do not allow you set a text field with an OptionSet label.

 

Classic CDS workflows will allow you to do this.  Best to have a read through of this documentation on the classic workflows.

 

Here are a few quick steps to get you started

  1. From make.powerapps.com, navigate to Solutions and open the Solution you are working in (or create a new one).
  2. When you are inside the Solution click Switch to classic to open the classic Solution explorerAnnotation 2020-01-24 133142 01.png
  3. From there you can follow these steps provided by Microsoft and end up with a Workflow that looks something like the following (which I put together to do the same thing with the Account entity's Industry optionset field)Annotation 2020-01-24 133142 02.png

 

 

Note, this is very much a work around.  I would only implement this if it was a must requirement for the users to be able to search by typing text.  You could always have your Canvas App text search box hide and then show a drop down list when the user selects Devices as the filter.

Hi @Macwin ,

 

I am not sure if this is possible to achieve.

 

An alternative is to create a new text field for your entity in CDS which holds the label of the chosen Device optionset value.  Use a classic Common Data Service workflow to populate the text field when the Device option is changed.  You can then use your filter formula in the Canvas App against the new text field instead of the optionset field.

How do I setup my example as an workflow ? 
I did create a textfield "TextDevice" in my CDS.

But I dont know how to connect it to my Optionset field

Should my then case be like this

TextDevice Value = [Optionset] Device ? 

 

I really appreciate your help since I have never worked with flows 🙂

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
