How to Change existing PowerApp from Sharepoint List to use a Dataverse

Is there any available video or clear explanation on how I can change the connection in an existing PowerApp from an existing Sharepoint list to an existing Dataverse (structure of Dataverse is exact the same as the Sharepoint list).

I only want to start using a Dataverse in stead of a Sharepointlist to store the data.

Kind regards in Advance,

Hi @Mar1604 ,

Please try these steps,

  • Open your existing PowerApps, navigate to left pane, select "View" and then "Data sources."
  • Find the SharePoint List data source in the list and remove it by clicking on the ellipsis (three dots) and selecting "Remove."
  • Click on "Add data source" in the left pane.
  • Search for "Data verse" and select the Data verse environment you prepared earlier.
  • Go through the screens and forms in your PowerApps and update the controls' data properties to bind them to the corresponding fields in the Data verse data source. For e.g., if you had a Gallery or Data Table that showed items from the SharePoint List, update its "Items" property to use the relevant Data verse entity.
  • If you have forms in your PowerApps, update their data connections to use the Data verse data source.
  • For existing forms, you can use the "Reset to data source" option to update the data connection
  • If you had any specific logic, calculations, or formulas that used SharePoint List data, you might need to update them to work with Data verse data.
  • Once you have validated that your PowerApps works as expected with the Data verse data source, save your changes and publish the app to the desired environment.

Hello, @Mar1604, are you migrating the SharePoint list to Dataverse? Also, there is no way you can just change connections, you will have to change the code to point toward your DV tables and use your DV tables columns. DV tables schemas and relationship behavior are completely different than SP.

Hi @AhmedSalih ,

It's a test if I could use this writeback app (PowerApp within PowerBI), which has currently a setup with a Sharepoint list in a combination with a Dataverse backend. So I've created a DVtable with exactly the same columns as my SPlist and I know that I have to rewrite some code, but I would like to know if there's some kind of documentation on how to do this.

Hi @DeviKrishna ,

I'm very happy with your extensively answer, I've tried to follow all your steps, but I think I've a complicated factor in the App, because it is a 'write-back' app. The app is incorporated in Power BI and from the Power BI Service environment, people can write comments that are being stored currently in SharePoint, but immediately visible in the Power BI Service again. I will dive into the problem again, because maybe I don't need to change the settings in the PowerApp, but in the background of the Power BI report.

Thanks for now. I will study on a proper solution for a while.
