How to VIEW Dataverse attachments?

In the following view, I need to know if this item contains multiple attachments:

But it seems only the first is visible, how to view them all?

Hi @WebPortal ,

General questions on your approach:

  1. Is this a File type field that you have added to the Events (or similar) table?  If it is then this is a single attachment for this field, would not support multiple attachments.
  2. If you have enabled attachments on this table and uploaded them through a canvas app or another approach, similar to the following (https://youtu.be/RGJrUkgh_NU) then you will have multiple attachments on the table but there is no out-of-the-box way to view these in a model driven app that I know of, maybe someone else would know.  It could be possible to embed a canvas app to the model app form or a custom page (following approach from video).
  3. I normally follow these approaches when it comes to multiple attachments to a table record
    1. Add notes to the record with the attachments in the note.
    2. Setup custom activity (or a standard table as a related table if concerned on the activity security) with a File field on the table and relate this to the parent.  This way you can create metadata on the attachment as well.  This has worked well for me in multiple projects.
    3. Setup integration with SharePoint / Teams for the table and store them remotely with ability to view in Dataverse.  This is the good for cost of course as SharePoint space is much cheaper than Dataverse File space costs
Hope this helps. Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

If you are going with the approach 3a. from @dpoggemann,'s comment, you will need to add a timeline to your form to see the attachments as mentioned in the links below.

Hi,

This table has the attachments enabled, although I have no idea what that is supposed to do. Been searching the documentation, but still no idea. Is this supposed to associate attachments with the entire table?

WebPortal_0-1686127787794.png

I have added the attachments to each Record, in a column called "Anexos":

WebPortal_1-1686127846892.png

I've tried to build a canvas app, but can't figure out how to see the attachments, when linking to SharePoint a simple Launch function in a icon OnSelect would do it.

I've also tried to build a model driven app, but I can't view/edit multiple attachments as per my previous screen shot.

Attachments are a big big problem in Dataverse..

@LinnZawWin

I've tried to add the timeline to the model driven app, as you suggest.

But no attachments are shown:

WebPortal_0-1686129929476.png

Perhaps this is because this table is of type Standard?

Hi everyone,

This is also a topic that I'm having a hard time with. I've enabled the attachment on my table. I've managed to add an attachment via Canvas app. The thing I'm wondering about is how I display those attachments in the view form? I need to be able to send the records (not through PowerApps but with a link to the view Form) to another user so he can view each record and see the Attachments.

I'm going to try to add a new table, establish a relationship with this one and add the attachments in the vertical, as suggested by @dpoggemann on 3.b)

I still don't know how to deal with the permissions, at the moment.

It's a lot of work, but we have gone too far in Dataverse migration and it's too late to give up.

If I find something, I'll post here.

@WebPortal

If you create a File column called "Anexos", you will only be able to attach one single file. Attaching another file to that column will replace the existing file. Since the column can only contain one file at a time, I don't think you have this scenario for "if this item contains multiple attachments"

From the timeline control, you can create a new Note and attach files. Since you are able to create multiple Notes, you can attach multiple files.

@LinnZawWinAha, that makes it very clear!

One attachment per record in the attachments column, as opposed to multiple attachments in Sharepoint lists.

This means I must create a Dataverse table to store all the attachments in vertical, like:

Table ID | Record ID  | File

Hi @WebPortal ,

I would suggest looking at 3a and 3b options I provided.  If you created using a custom Activity it will allow you to set the regarding id to any table that has activities enabled (effectively your "Table ID") above.

Hope this helps. Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.
