Office 365 E3 & Dataverse License

My company users have Office 365 E3 license and Flow For Free.

E3 Includes...

Common Data Service

Power Automate for Office 365
Power Apps for Office 365

If I develop and share a Model-driven app that uses CDS, can users access it with the above-mentioned license?

Hi @PrasadAthalye,

Overall we utilize the Power Apps Per App plan all the time and really haven't hit the API limit issues but this will depend on environments.

Limit details here for APIs:

Hi @PrasadAthalye

The answer is no - the E3 license does not enable users to run a model driven app that uses the CDS/Dataverse.

The "Common Data Service" entry in the list you mention can be confusing, because it gives the impression that users can access model driven apps/CDS with that license. The link beneath clarifies what "Common Data Service" provides access to.

Hi @PrasadAthalye ,

There are limited Dataverse capabilities and flow capabilities available with the E3 license due to some other Microsoft applications that are leveraging this functionality as part of their offering and Dataverse for Teams is leveraging this functionality and it is included as part of the E3 licensing.

Dataverse for Teams is different than building a standard Dataverse based model application or other Power App that would connect to a Dataverse environment that you create.  Dataverse for Teams is unique in the standpoint that this is included with the Microsoft 365 / Office 365 licensing vs purchasing a separate "Power Apps Per App" or "Power Apps Per User" plan.

See the following link which goes over the Licensing and Restrictions for Dataverse for Teams.  I also detailed out licensing needed from the Microsoft 365 side in this other reply recently here.

Hope this helps clear up your question.  It is a great new added capability Microsoft has provided.  Some limitations of course but you can store the data in a true relational database vs. SharePoint lists or other locations...

Thanks much,

Drew

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I do understand licensing about Dataverse for Teams. But I am looking for leveraging the Full version of Dataverse(CDS) along with a Model-driven app and Business Process implementation. What other license users would need other than one that Office 365 E3 provides? Screen shot in your 2nd link shows that Powerapps is included...

HI @PrasadAthalye ,

For the full version of Dataverse and Model apps you would leverage Power Apps Per App license which would give the users the ability to utilize two apps (any combination of model or canvas).  I always recommend 1 user to get the Power Apps Per User license as this provides 10GB of storage at the tenant level.

The following guide provides details for you on the licensing and what is included with the Office 365, Power Apps Per App, and Power Apps Per User plans.

Hope this helps, let me know if questions as I work with licensing in this area a lot.

Thanks,

Drew

It depends (on usage) a Power Apps licence may suffice as  per @dpoggemann post - however, these still have API limits and depending on actual usage may not be enough - if this is a case you would need to go up to the relevant Dynamics 365 licence or purchase additional API calls (note: the form loading data counts towards API call counts, it is not just where someone has custom code making api calls; and the API counting is per user not pooled across all users i.e. a (one) user exceeds limit you have to pay for addon for that user).

What about Power Apps Per-app plan. Will that help?
