Script is Breaking With the Loop and File is not Save

Hello,

I have two issues with this script.  When the loop is on, the script skip everything that inside the loop and goes to the end.

Second, It does not save the file for me at all with the new name convention.  Can someone, please help me to fix this issue?  Thanks an advance.

Just my 2 cents based on what I'm seeing:

  • I noticed your Launch Excel is set to use an existing process. Have you tried opening it using a new Excel instance?
  • In the Close Excel "Document path", I typically end mine with .xlsx; not 100% sure if that is required or not, but it's what I do

The reason nothing is saved is because your flow fails to launch the file, meaning all further actions are ignored, as your flow stops on the error.

The error seems to indicate that there's something wrong with the target file. Does it really exist? Does the user running the flow have access to it?

Hi Agnius,

You probably right about the permission thing.  Let me find out and I will keep both you posted.

Thanks for the reply

Well,

I went back and I do have permission to read, rename, copy, delete, and write to this folder. So the loop is skipping 4 actions but there's one action is not part of this loop, but it save the file the way I need it too.  Something on this loop that's not correct.

Hi @TTC  I hope you are doing well.

In addition to what @Agnius mentioned previously, here on the image below you can see my recommendations.

Process 1 - My recommendations here are:

  1. Use a Set Variable Action with the folder path which contains the file and in which the file will be saved. This will facilitate any change needed and the aesthetic of the code.
  2. The action# 5 showcase if deleting Columns D, E & F can be used instead of using 3 Delete Columns actions, this is just a recommendation and if you consider use it, please validate the number of rows of your file or Excel version.

Process 2 - My recommendations here are:

  1. If the Open Excel is failing, this could be for multiple reasons:
    1. The file path is incorrect.
    2. The excel file has pivot table with the update pivot upon opening the file, this will cause this kind of error.
  2. Use the Run Action showcase on action #10 to open the Excel file.
  3. Then use the Attached to Excel File action #11 to get the instance of the File “Day Break Fast”.
  4. On the same action, set up the error handling to try it 5 times to avoid getting an error.

This should give some ideas of how to tackle and resolve this situation.

Hope this helps,

@WillSG

Hello there,

I try both methods and seems not working for me.  It could be on my end that I missed something out on your example.  I know you are offering consultant and I was working close to another consultant and the script is almost done.  If you and I can figure out the skipping part and that's all I need.  Can you able to help?
Thanks an advanced!

Not sure if this is still relevant, but after looking at your original screenshots, I can see that you save the file with a "_PAD" suffix at the end of the file name, but the Launch Excel action does not have the suffix. That might be the reason why your flow does not find the file. Make sure your naming is correct.

@Agnius

After I looked at the script, I am calling the launch action after I download the file from the client email.

Then I did some manipulation of that file and then save the file with a new name.  For example, when I grab the excel file from the customer email as Daybreak Fast.xlsx.  This is what inside that folder, the launch excel action suppose to see it and yes the file does exist with the proper name.  Then I manipulate the excel file and then save it in the same folder with a different name as Daybreak Fast_PAD.xlsx.  After that the script should move to the next file and repeat the same process until it reads all the files in that folder, but the script did skip the entire loop and go to the end.

I hope I explain it what I need to do.  Please let me know if you need more screenshots and detail.

Thanks an advanced!
