Date Time Changes from Transform Sample File Do Not Register in Main Query

Hello,

I have some CSVs in a SharePoint folder that I am importing to PBI Desktop (February 2024 release). Everything seems to be working fantastic. I have minimal transformations to make so the model is relatively simple. Unfortunately, date/time changes in the Transform Sample File are not cascading to the Main Query table. I've read a bunch of posts here on this about it being a Sample File name getting changed or editing ther query by hand. I have no edited the query manually by hand. And as far as I can tell, the Sample File name is being referenced everywhere correctly. Does anyone have any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?

You could always just save that daytime transform for the main query. When possible, do the minimum necessary to get the files to combine correctly in the sample query, and then do everything else in the main query.

Hey there - thanks for responding! I thought it was the best practice to do all transformations in the transformation sample as opposed to the main query.

I suppose that someone may have said that somewhere, but experience says otherwise.  I use the transform file to make sure that each file in the folder is of the same structure, and as soon as I've done enough to have them combine correctly, I combine them and then do everything else in the main query.  If you make changes to the transform file after you've already combined, you are very likely to have to then make adjustments to the main query to account for the new changes in the transform file; that's too much work!

Oh boy! Well then, I'll re-tool my process to do all changes in the Main Query. In the Transform Query I have to do some minor transformations (Promote First Row to Headers) because I need to capture the file name (mm-yyyy.csv) so I can use it in the Main Query. Other than that, I think I can process everything else in the Main query.
