HTTP action - post method to upload a file to smartsheet row - file size is fixed to 1Kb

Hello,

I have 2 tables in smartsheet and I am trying to copy a file from a row in a table A to another row in a Table B.

- I created a flow using as trigger "when a row is created" providing as input the smartsheet sheetId in order to get details about table A.

- Then I use a HTTP Get method to find the attachments in the recently created row.

- From the results or outputs from the HTTP get method, I am able to identify the properties and assign the values to variables.

- Then I use a insert to row action to create a new row in table B.

- Then using an apply to each for all the attachment files founded in the http get action I use a new HTTP action with post method to insert the files to the row in table B.

As result I have the row inserted and the file is created, same name, same extension etc, except the file size, it is always set to 1 Kb and for that reason when I try to open it from the table B, I got a message saying that the file is corrupt.

The entire flow works and it does not show any errors.

below you will see the image of the HTTP action post method, from where I guess the issue is created:

Note: I have the value for the authorization property at headers section.

and the following are the results after test it:

this is the text in the body section:

{
  "attachments": [

        "name""David Mejia",
        "email""dmejia@gildan.com"
        }  }  ] }

The header section text is:

{
  "Authorization""*sanitized*",
  "Content-Type""application/pdf",
  "Content-Disposition""attachment; filename=\"GFCRC0943138_4140CRS_TE-2011-84-D051220.pdf\"",
  "Content-Length""129024",
  "Accept""*/*",
  "Connection""keep-alive",
  "Accept-Encoding""gzip, deflate, br",
  "Cache-Control""no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate"
}

The output text is:
{
  "message""SUCCESS",
  "resultCode"0,
  "result": {
    "id"4402717607126916,
    "name""GFCRC0943138_4140CRS_TE-2011-84-D051220.pdf",

    "createdBy": {
      "name""David Mejia",
      "email""dmejia@gildan.com"
    }
  },
  "version"223
}
I created the flow base on the smartsheet API documentation:
Page 23 to 27 using the simple upload procedure.

As you can see, the value of the "sizeInkb" is received with 4096 as value but as result of the post it is changed to 1.
Could you please explain me why it is happening or what am I missing in the headers or body section?

Thank you so much for your efforts and support.

Hi, I hope you are doing well.

I founded a way to manage attachments. the trick is to manage the objects and passing the parameters from table A to table B, if you want to try please follow these steps:

  1. Add a new http action to your flow to get all the attachments in table A. you can get them all sing the following URI structure: https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0/sheets/ the-number-of-your-table A-id-comes-here/attachments

use as header the Authorization = the code you got from smartsheet and Content-Type = application/json

2. Initiate the following variables:

    - attachmentFileContent with type string, no value.

    - attachmentsObject with type object and as value the body of your get action of step1.

    - attachObject with type object, no value.

    - attachArray with type array, no value.

    - decodedContent with type string, no value.

    - attachmentsArray with type array and as value  the expresion    variables('attachmentsObject')['data']

    - attachmentFile with type object, no value.

3. Add a filter array action with the following parameters as expressions:

   from variables('attachmentsArray')

   where string(item()['parentId']) is equal to the rowID of the row inserted in table B.

4. Add a Set value action for attachArray variable and assign as value the body of the filter array of step 3.

5. Add an Apply to Each to your flow to manage multiple files in one row. (just in case the row have more than one).  use as select output from previous steps  variables('attachArray').

Inside the apply to each action, do the following:

a) Add a http action with get method using  https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0/sheets/the-number-of-your-table A-id-comes-here/attachments/items('Apply_to_each')['id']

name the action Get attachment.

use the expression box for the parameter  items('Apply_to_each')['id'] at the end it has to look like:

Dmejia_0-1676647254869.png

as header use the authorization and value the code you got from smartsheet.

b) Add a set variable action for attachObject variable and use as value body('Get_attachment')

c) Add a http action with get method using as URI  variable('attachObject')['url']

no headers in this case. name the action as Get attachmentFile

d) Add a set variable action for the variable attachmentFile and use as value body('Get_attachmentFile')

Dmejia_1-1676647254872.png

e) add a set variable action for the variable attachmentFileContent and use as value variables('attachmentFile')['$content']

Dmejia_2-1676647254873.png

f) add a set variable action for decodedContent variable and use as value variables('attachmentFileContent')

Dmejia_3-1676647254873.png

g) add a http action with post method using as uri

https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0/sheets/yourTableB_id/rows/yourDestinationRowID/attachments/

as headers use:

Authorization = the code you got from smartsheet

Content-Type  = variables('attachmentFile')['$content-type']

Content-Disposition = attachment, filename="variables('attachObject')['name]''

Content-Length  = length(variables('decodedContent'))

and finally at the body section use body('Get attachmentFile')

here is how it must look like:

Dmejia_4-1676647254877.png

that is the attachment management portion to copy files from table A to table B for a specific row in smartsheet.

I hope this help you to have an idea of how to modify your flow.

kind regards,

David Mejia
