Power automate - Trigger condition ===> Trigger only if the value of one field change

Hello,

I am a beginner in Power Automate and I need advice to continue my first use of Power Automate.

I want to know if in Power Automate Flow, when we define a trigger condition, is it possible to define a trigger only if the value of one field change

In my example, the field is a dropdown list called "status" (in a SharePoint List).

The aim is if the value of the field "Status" change (among X possible values), the next action of the flow triggered only in this condition.

And if the value of the other fields change (without change in the field "Status") nothing is happening.

On the base of my first tests, I have the possibility to create a condition but with the existing operators (equal, different...), I can't define a condition meeting my need.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi @Oberber

@tom_riha will keep you right with this article https://tomriha.com/identify-which-sharepoint-item-columns-were-updated-in-power-automate/  I don't believe that the trigger condition can identify WHICH column was updated, albeit you can check to see if a column (i.e. status not equal to) is (or is not) a certain value.  The above solution will show how you can identify what column has changed once the flow has been triggered.

If you want a wee demo on trigger conditions, check this out https://youtu.be/tlS6pSAx-GY

Hello!
The flow at the end of the page has a solution for your problem. The first action called "When an item is created or modified" detects creation or modification in a SharePoint list. When connected to the "Get Changes for an item or a file" returns the exact set of changes that might have occurred to a list or a file. In your case, when adding a condition and searching in the dynamic content "Has Columns Changed: XX" you can select the column where you want to detect changes (in this case XX column).

Read https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/run-a-flow-when-a-sharepoint-column-is-modified/ for more information.

I also found another issue similar to yours where a solution was found. The solution was based in using the trigger options (accessed in settings, see image below).

In the Trigger Conditions, you can select the conditions to trigger your flow. In my example, the flow will be trigger when the Field "Status" (which is also a dropdown list) is updated to the value "Choice 1".
I will try to include all of the possible "Status" values in the Trigger Condition and check if it works.

Any question that you have feel free to ask.

Hello,

Thank you both

It’s OK for me, I obtain the expected outcome following the different steps of Tom Riha article.

As i don’t understand the utility of each step, I have a question about the differents actions

Option (Tom Riha)

  • When an item is created or modified
  • Get change to an itemor file (properties only)
  • Filter array
  • Select
  • Condition (If Status Column changed = True)

Option (t-imoreira)

  • When an item is created or modified
  • Get change to an itemor file (properties only)
  • Condition (If Status Column changed = True)

Why do I need « filter array » and « select » actions ?

Thanks in advance
