Action 'Add_attachment' failed

Hi,

I am creating a flow so that when an attachment is added to a sharepoint list it archives the item and attachment to another sharepoint list and then deletes the original item. Unfortunately when the flow is running i am seeing an error:

See my flow below:

It is failing on add attachment step:

Hi @KurtH1994 ,

Please check

(1) the Add attachment action is using the SharePoint ID from the Create Item Action:Snag_ff819d5.png

(2) Confirm that SharePoint List contains an item with ID = 30

Snag_ffb2c64.png

Add the ID column to your SharePoint view if needed:

Hi Ellis,

Thank you for your response, that is correct and the ID 30 does exist.

Hi @KurtH1994

I see there are nested Apply to Each loops in the flow.

(1) Where in the flow does the Add attachment action appear?

(2) Id field - Please confirm which action are you getting the ID from?

Snag_10266390.png

The sequence of actions probably needs to be Create Item followed by Add Attachment?

Hi,

The ID is coming from the 'Get Item' action.

I have managed to get the flow to complete, however the new item is not being created within the "completed" sharepoint list. See flow order below:

KurtH1994_0-1659014760986.png

TIA

If I have understood correctly, after the Create Item action you want to then add file attachments to the newly created item? In that case the ID for the Add Attachment action should come from the Create Item action and not the Get Item action.

You may need to post some sample SharePoint data in order to understand how your flow works with the data.

Hi,

That no longer returns an error, my only issue now is that the item is not being created in the new list. All actions in the 'create item' function come from the 'get item' function. See below flow:

KurtH1994_0-1659019268954.png

TIA

Please post some sample SharePoint data in order to understand how your flow works with the data with an explanation of how the data is read, used and then saved.

Hi Ellis,

Multiple people - yes

Multiple travel types - yes

Body = 'Get Attachments' action.

Thank you for your time and perseverance on this.

TIA

Please supply some sample data and the SharePoint column names and data types:

For example, sample data:

Column Types:

Hi @KurtH1994 ,

Thanks for the info.

(1) If I understand correctly, this is what the flow is trying to achieve, more or less:

Snag_15066417.png

The actions in the archive process copy the item to another list and then delete the original item.

(2) How do you plan to handle instances when a user has saved a new item but now hen needs to edit the item due to missing or incorrect information that was added? If the user added an new item along with an attachment, the current flow would archive it and they wont be able to find the item to edit?

Snag_150ed73c.png

(3) The SharePoint connectors in Power Automate does not have a way to detect if a list item attachment was modified (i.e an additional file added to the list item, or the file was replaced with a new file.

Ellis

Hi Ellis,

That is correct, i am going to tag an approval within the flow once i get it working so that the user confirms they want it to be archived. Additionally, the archive list will be accessible to users if they require to alter anything.

TIA

Hi @KurtH1994 ,

Here are a few actions to try out, including a way to simplify the flow:

Snag_1597d231.png

We can use a Select action to collect together the People travelling and the Travel types. This will avoid the multiple apply to each loops  that will create one a new item for each Person and Travel types:

Snag_158f44cc.png

Here is some sample data showing the outputs the Select actions :

Snag_15d24479.png

In the Create item action we use the outputs from the Select action for the People Travelling and Travel Type columns. Remember to "Switch input to entire array":

Snag_15984e95.png

Get the item's attachments:

Snag_15989bca.png

Iterate through each attachment, and add the attachment to the newly created item in the Archive list:

Snag_1598ddb5.png

Hope this helps.

Hi Ellis,

Thank you for that, it works well! However i am still experiencing issues with the people travelling column. See below error i am getting:

KurtH1994_0-1659436147520.png

I had to alter your flow slightly to accommodate for apply each functions but it still is ok. See flow, i have set the parameters to the ones you discussed.
