Add/Update SharePoint List from Excel using Switch control

Good afternoon.  I hope someone will be able to help me with my flow. I have a list that needs to be updated based on some analysis that is extracted into Excel.  My list contains records with 2 sub-classes within it that use different attributes/info which is why I needed the switch control.  It  goal is to check to see if the permit numbers match, if they do then update the record.  If they don't match, then see if the record exists and if it does change a column called Display Value to No so it hides the record.  If it doesn't exist, create it.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, it never creates any new records.  It only updates the records that previously exist.

Hi @Gremlin1 ,

I see your flow ends up in 4 different places, how does it look when you run your flow? Could you maybe share a screenshot of that?

Hi @Heartholme

Thanks for your quick response.  the 4 switch cases are sub types with a different numbering system.  they all reside in the same list.

Here are some examples to help illustrate what I'm trying to do.

this is where a new record should be created.  it says that it doesn't meet the condition

here is the get items:

here is a part of the excel table that should match the records in my list

Here is a part of the list - I've created a DisplayValue column - (choice) where if it was no, it would hide the column in views.

So, it appears that it is the 1st condition that is causing the issue. It needs to be based on the permit # as the other values might change

Hi again,

From the error message it seems like you are missing an repeating action in your first condtion, right after apply to each 5.

So please try the following, make sure the 'value' in the apply to each is the permit number.

Then replace your condition item with "Current item"

Find it in your dynamic content like this:

Let me know how it goes 😄

Sorry, the flow failed.  when I change the Apply to Each to Permit Number from value, it created another apply to each.

Yes, you know refrence a value with multiple rows, i.e iterations, so it will be created automatically. Drag everything from Apply to each 5 to thw 7 one and delete your apply to each 5 for example.

Every time I try to change the apply to each  value to permit it keeps adding a new one.   I think that I might need to come up with another solution...maybe taking the 2nd condition out and using length.

I appreciate all your help.

@Gremlin1

That's fine actually, because that means that you are referencing dynamic content with multiple values, which you need an apply to each to cycle through.

You can do one of the two following things:

1. Drag your item from your 'old' apply to each into your new one and delete the old.

2. You can hover over the item you add (which adds a new apply to each), copy the expression and then go out of the flow before if saves and back in again and put it into your original apply to each as an expression, which should not generate a new apply to each:

So all in all, you are on the right path, when powerautomate generates a new apply to each, it just means that you are putting in a multirow element, which needs to be iterated through in order to check every value.

Let me know if you have any further questions 😄

Good luck!
