Adding multichoice items to a sharepoint list with a twist....

Hi there. I have been power automating about a month and love it. Need a hand though and i hope you can help.

I have an errors form made in forms. One of the questions is a multichoice answer with choice1, choice2 etc.

I have a share point list for my form and a flow that can populate the list with my form answers.

The column for the multichoice answer (of which there are 5) is colour coded for the answers. Therefore, choice1 will appear blue, choice 2 would appear green etc.

My initial iteration of the flow produced a column entry thur

["choice1,choice3, choice5] and simmilar entries. I have worked out how to remove the quotes, brackets etc. but ultimately, once these are removed the entry in the column is treated as a single entity called Choice1,choice3,choice5 and has no colour coding (each of them separately has a colour, but if all together, doesnt have  acolour)

I tried using spaces between , line breaks </br>, periods '.' to no avail

Then I found the use of variables() and could extract the individual items.

However, one needs to know the exact number of choices for each answer otherwise if you choose too many variables it errors. E.g. three choices picked would allow for variables(<choiceanswer>)[0] ; [1] and [2] but if you tried to specifiy variables()[3] it would error saying that it doenst exist and the flow would halt.

So i set up a foreach loop to update sharepoint list entry based on the number of choices made for that question at any time.

However, my question is this. UPdate sharepoint list (item) will REPLACE the sharepoint list item specified and not add to it. On each do.until loop that i have set up, i add the next variable but in doing so it removes the previous variable.

I am looking for a true "append to sharepoint list" item connector which doesnt exist (or if it does, i havent found it).

The answers online mention creating an array but I have just worked out how to separate items from such an arrayto do what i need.

I hope this is clear and thanks in advance

Hi @heshan_pandit

According to your description, You want to create the multiple-choice answers submitted in the Form into a column which type is multiple-choice in sharepoint list. If any misunderstanding, please kindly let me know.

I set up a simple Flow, you can refer to as below:

This is my list:

vLilyWmsft_0-1625033988748.png

Flow in details:

vLilyWmsft_1-1625033988760.png

vLilyWmsft_2-1625033988763.png

vLilyWmsft_3-1625033988766.png

vLilyWmsft_4-1625033988767.png

Please note that change the details inputs for array item to input entire array, then fill in the output of the select action in the filed.

vLilyWmsft_5-1625033988772.png

Then save Flow and can test it.

When a form is submitted as below:

New item will be created as below:

Hope the content above may help you.

HI there

many many thanks.

A few things yet

1. On the "JOIN" connector, the flow errors report tells me that the "join with" box is blank. What do i join with. YOur box is empty on the picture.

2WITWL.PNGWITWL2.PNG

2. In my previous iterations and attempts, I found that I need to remove square brackets, quotes, commas etc. Will I need to do the same here?

I have never used the "join" or "select" connectors so will have to learn what they do!!

Thanks

heshan

In the meantime i have made a very simple form and questionnaire

Apologies, I looked at your solution and what I thought was dirt on my screen was in fact a "," comma.

Will correct this now.

PS the outcome that you have put in a picture on your solution is EXACTLY  what I am looking for!

Hi @heshan_pandit

About your question 2, according to my solution, you don’t need to add operations to remove square brackets, quotes, commas etc anymore.

Best Regards.

Apologies for the big picture

I ran the form twice and chose one multi choice answer for the first run and chose 2 answers for the second run.

As you can see from the list entry that the word "Value" appears in the list entry rather than the word sunny. It would appear that in the select connector, adding the key value as "value" might be adding it to the word "sunny"

In the select connector, I simply typed the word "Value" in to the box labelled "key" - was that correct.

Thanks in advance and nearly there!

Thanks

I had entered the dynamic content with the previous setting. I removed the dynamic content, changed the switch to the "input entire array" and then re added the dynamic content and it worked!

ANy chance you could explain the difference?
