Approval flow and get manager

Hi,

i have created a list and would like managers approval when a new item is created , but im having an issue with the get manger side of things in the approval step ..,when its trying run the approval step is get an error :

"

InvalidTemplate. Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Start_an_approval' inputs at line '1' and column '3320': 'The template language expression body('Get_manager_(V2)')?['mail'] cannot be evaluated because property 'mail' cannot be selected. Array elements can only be selected using an integer index. 

the get manager details come up fine and pulls in the correct details for the users.. but not really sure where to look 

my assigned to field is "mail" i'm not sure what to chenage this to or if it need to be an expression , again not sure what this should be it looks like its currently body(Get_manager_(V2)')?['mail'] tried amending this but no luck keep getting an error when i select ok ..

any suggestion would be great

Hey @Paddi .

Technically it should work - Can you try to add a Compose action and pass the output of the Compose action to approval.

hi,

i dont seem to have an option to select the get manager mail output and im thinking this could be the problem , is it because its nested in an apply for each ? if i remove the mail input from my original flow im unable to re-add it , all i see is current item ?

I think understand why the Compose action output is not visisble.

Initialize a variable of type string pass it to approval action

Hi,

sorry for the delay in getting back to you , still the same problem , with not being able to select mail as an option in dynamic content .... i suspect its something to do with the get manager config , it changes to an apply to each as soon as i select employee name email from the dynamic content , tried using a get profile step to see if this would help , but same issue .... 

if i use the created by email in dynamic content i seem to hold , but it might not always be the end user who adds the entry ... but it might be the only solution

Hi,

i think i may have fixed it now , it looks like i had the "person or Group" column set as multiple entries , so that is where the confusion has been , i have now changed that to be a single user and it all looks like its coming together now ...

Ahh, Ok. The person or Group was returning an array of user. 

Now that you have selected a single user it works. I am glad that things are working now.

Is there a way to "Get Manager" from a column that has multiple people?
