Automate works for all entries except mine.

Hi, bit of a strange one. I have created a flow which is for approvals when a users adds a new entry to a sharepoint list.

To give a summary....A user requests leave or travel...depending on who the user is the approval requests goes to one of two managers. If they approve the request an email goes to the user stating it was approved. It then updates the sharepoint list with the approval status. If the request was for leave it then adds an entry on to a team calendar which is also on our sharepoint site.

If the request was for travel it only emails the user of the status and updates the status on the sharepoint list.

If the request was denied, then it emails the user with status and updates the sharepoint list.

This works without issue for all users so far, except mine. I've had one leave request and one travel request. I get the notification they were approved, it added the leave to the calendar, however it did not update the status on the sharepoint list, it still says pending.

Just not sure why it would work for all but me as other staff have entered both types and the flow worked without fail. I just can't seem to figure out why it would not set content approval status for me only.

I have attached some screenshots of the flow to see what I have done. Leave Travel Flow.png

@Nunzie

Have you checked the run history for your specific request

Yes and all of the run history entries say successful, besides one really old one while I was still building it. That's what makes it even more confusing to me.

@Nunzie

So did you open the exact flow run and observed its behaviour and you found that it passed the update step successfully but the sharepoint wasn't updated?

Correct, I've opened up the run, and all the steps completed as expected, particularly where the list item gets updated. I also confirmed that it updated the correct ID number.

Hi @Mira_Ghaly ,

Could you please share the screenshot of the flow run history so we could better understand the issue?

Could you please take a try to remove the Apply to each in the flow, and fill the ETag column in the Update content approval status action?

Best Regards,

Alice

I can try to screenshot the run history....however it's a lot of code that it notes so not sure how I'm going to  get it all easily.

I cannot remove the apply to each, it automatically adds that in when I have it record things from the approval response and set the status. I didn't add that myself. I had I had start and wait for an approval then the first condition of If outcome was approve, set content approval status, and when I started to fill in the details in that step, it automatically added apply to each.

I've gone through the flow/flow history with a fine tooth comb and can't see any issues.

I tried testing it on my entries which hadn't updated the SharePoint list and on the test it updated as expected. I've also tried adding a few new entries which also worked as expected.

I'll keep an eye on it in future and see if I have any more issues. Maybe it was just a fluke for my two entries as it has worked without fail for all other entries.

Thanks for the help!

Strange one, this flow which has been working for months now has suddenly stopped working. The flow has not been altered since it was created and went live once working properly. Frustratingly this seems to be my experience with O365, a PowerApp I have used for several months that worked without fail has suddenly stopped working as well, with no changes made to it. But that's a different post.

My screenshots above still apply. The flow is stalling at the Start and Wait for an Approval step. It is not sending the email notifications to the managers when a new entry is made. However, when I log into Power Automate, the approvals can be seen there. I just don't understand why it has suddenly stopped. It makes no sense unless Microsoft made some changes that effect the coding??

Below is the code that is used for the Assigned to field:

if(or(equals(triggerBody()?['Author']?['DisplayName'], 'Employee1'), equals(triggerBody()?['Author']?['DisplayName'], 'Employee2')),'manager1@email.com', 'manager2@email.com')
