I am attempting to accomplish the below task with an Automate flow. Everything works up until I'm trying to get my item ID.
User1 sends a template email to User2 - Trigger
Template email includes Outage in subject line and descriptors in body
Parse a location, date and notes from the email
Update a sharepoint list with the location, date, notes and set yes/no choice to Active(yes)
Send an email to user1 with a list item ID for the created Sharepoint item
User1 emails the list item ID to User2 with subject Complete
Flow triggers Active set to inactive.
I have a couple of questions. Am I able to setup my connectors at the beginning of the flow? I'd like to go down each path based on the subject line of the email (Complete/Outage). Is this viable? Also, how would I go about returning the list ID for the created Item and then reference that to only toggle the Yes/No choice box? I get my ID value, but I don't know how to configure referencing it to only affect the Yes/No column. I'm currently getting a new entry whenever I run the flow.
I'm not exactly understanding what is broken here, but I am also a little confused about this email loop being created.
I had to look at this like 10 times, but it seems like you are trying to use 1 flow for 2 purposes. And it almost looks like it will work, but that is an illusion. (The flow isn't broken like error, but it's not going to do what you want.)
The ID is not going to carry over from the Create Item to the Update Item step when the second email comes around.
You can combine the two functions into 1 flow, but before that you should make a flow that is just for updating an item. I'm saying to make a second flow to learn how it will work. Then you can combine the two, but it will basically be one flow that splits into two separate branches based on conditions. None of the values will be shared.

You are correct. I am attempting to accomplish two tasks with a single flow. I've tried two flows, as well as the singular one, but I'm still having issues. I'm able to populate my Sharepoint, but for the 2nd part of the flow, how would I go about updating a singular Yes/No item? I was hoping the conditional statement email would accomplish this task, but its looking like it won't. If I were to make two separate flows, I'm still confused as to how to only affect my choice field for the current item.
Flow1: User1 sends email to User2 with Outage in title and required fields in body; SharePoint item is created by parsing required fields from email. Yes/No choice is set to Yes. Automated email returns ItemID for the newly created item.
Flow2: User1 sends email to User2 with Complete in title and ItemID in body; Flow is triggered so that the only edit is Yes/No choice is changed to No for the corresponding ItemID Choice column. I'd take the entire record being deleted, at this point tbh.

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge! This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks. The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”) - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024 Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.
