Can't send multiple email attachments in Flow through Outlook

I am having an issue sending multiple attachments in an email from Outlook in my Cloud Flow.  This sounds like the typical issue most people run into, but isn't.  Please read on.

The files I need to attach are coming from a Microsoft Form.  I have followed all the steps for creating an array and assigning that array as the input to the Attachment array in the Outlook Send Email action.  The array appears to be constructed correctly and the email gets sent.  However, the email has no attachments.  I can successfully send an email with a single attachment, so I know the email account is not blocked from sending attachments.

Here are some screenshots of what I have:

Flow to parse the multiple attachments into the array and add the array to the Outlook action

Here is what the input JSON to the Outlook action looks like after a successful run:

And here is the JSON structure, including the attachment array:

Here is the email, sans attachments.

I have been banging my head against the wall to figure this out and can't find any posts that address this.  Any help or suggestions provided will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @sbharris ,

Could you tell me how ‘Attachment Item - 1’ came about?

Please delete the 'Send an email(V2)' action and add it again to do a simple test.

Can you set it up like this?

Thanks for your response, Sunshine.

The picture I posted was misleading.  If I click on the array button you highlighted, you can see that I have set the array variable in the field.  It is enclosed in brackets, as you can see, in order for the action to work.  If I add the array variable without the brackets, the flow fails.

sbharris_0-1699324161825.png

When I take away the brackets, I get the following error:

{
"status": 400,
"message": "No input parameters provided. Please provide required input parameters 'To', 'Subject' and 'Body'.\r\nclientRequestId: 91506994-9e44-4df9-91f6-b673ca08d4f9",
"error": {
"message": "No input parameters provided. Please provide required input parameters 'To', 'Subject' and 'Body'."
},
"source": "office365-scus.azconn-scus-001.p.azurewebsites.net"
}

With the brackets, the email gets sent, but I get no attachments.  I'm puzzled.

Hi @sbharris ,

Please lock the 'Send an email(V2)' action and add it again to do a simple test.

Hi Sunshine,

I was wondering if those settings would have an impact.

I tried as you suggested, but no luck.  The email got sent, but there were no attachments.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi @sbharris ,

I'm curious about how your 'Attachment Item' came about. I only have these two formats.

I'm wondering about the problem with your 'Send an email (V2)' control, so I asked you to try rebuilding the control. Your current control Is there still 'Attachment Item' inside?

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

Hi Sunshine,

As requested, I recreated the action and still got the same results.  To ensure I'm not missing something, I'm going to share screenshots of all the steps I took for this test.

  1. Created a new email action immediately after my existing email action

sbharris_0-1699429455182.png

2. Here is what the action looks like before I enter anything into the Attachments field

sbharris_1-1699429518551.png

3. Clicking on the button to "Switch to detail inputs for array item" changes the Attachments to look like this.

sbharris_2-1699429698398.png

4. After I've added the attachment array variable to the Attachments array field.  Note, after I do this, I can no longer click on the "Switch to detail inputs for array item" button.  It is no longer active.

5. Because I've had errors previously by adding the array parameter without brackets, I also setup my existing action to include the attachments array enclosed in brackets "[ ]"

sbharris_4-1699429972435.png

6. After running the flow, here are my results.  The existing action with attachments closed in brackets worked, but the new action failed.  The email from the existing action still had no attachments, however.

sbharris_5-1699430029431.png

7. If I open the existing action and click on the detail input array button, you can see that Attachments section appears labeled as "Attachment Items - 1".

sbharris_6-1699430142840.png

8.  If I add brackets to the new action and try again, both actions are successful, but neither email that I receive has attachments.

Hope that clarifies things for you.  Please let me know if I can provide any further information, including getting on a Teams call to review this live.

Thanks for your help,

Scott
