Condition Expression Result False

Hello there,

Newbie to SharePoint. I'm trying to move items from one list to an "archive" list based on a Status (Choice) column being updated with a selection of "Complete". I've been through a bunch of other messages here to create an automated workflow and am hitting a road block. Whenever I do a test run, the flow runs successfully but the condition expression comes back as "False".

The flow is below. It may look like a mess as I've borrowed from other flows. Hopefully someone can help me figure this out.

Hi @ScottInSB ,

 

Please check the status dynamic content in condition.

 

If you are using 'Status' instead of 'Status Value', the condition will always return false. This is because 'Status' returns an array, it isn't equal to a string.

I did what you said. When I use Status Value, it automatically adds an Apply to Each for to entire condition.

When I run,  it comes back with an Action Failed.

@ScottInSB You should't need an Apply to Each action in your flow since your flow is triggered when an Item is Created or Modified. The reason Power Automate is automatically adding Apply to Each actions to your flow is because the Department, Status, Contact and Currently Assigned To columns accept multiple values. Even if there is a single value stored in your SP list, it will return the values as an array.

 

If you don't require multiple values for those columns, I would recommend toggling the Allow multiple selections off.

@creativeopinion I viewed the video but am still running into issues. When I run a Test, it comes back with everything below Apply to each 3 faded out:

Department and Status consist of multiple selections, and more than one can be selected at the same time. Contact and Currently assigned to are claims and can also have more than one selected at the same time.

The key here is that if Status has "Completed" selected, the item with its current selections needs to be moved to the archive list. 

Sorry if this is very basic. Again, I'm a newbie. 

@ScottInSB According to your original post, you only want to update the item if the status column is Complete. You should evaluate that first. Ideally, you should add a trigger condition so your flow doesn't even trigger unless the item has been updated to Complete.

 

However, can you clarify why more than one status would be selected? Confirming that the flow should only trigger if the status only contains Complete an no other status? Is that correct?  

 

The nested Apply to Each actions are the issue in your flow. You need to parse your multiple choice selections. You aren't doing that which is why each time you add dynamic content into your flow—it's automatically adding an Apply to Each action.

@creativeopinion , I made some adjustments to the list. A Yes/No column has been added to indicate if the item is complete or not. This is what I'm now using as as the condition, instead of the Status field. I've also updated the Status to Complete instead of Status Value, since the Item will be complete when the Complete checkbox is checked and the item is moved to the Archive list. Test results in a True expression result, however, the flow is not completing, it appears to be hung up on Currently Assigned To. This and the Contact fields will typically have names, but not always. There may be situations where it is left blank.

We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
