Condition calling for boolean value but won't recognize boolean variables

Hello community...

Me again. I'm at my wits' end. I am at the very end of my flow and need to build out three pretty simple conditions, but these three (actually the first) conditions have now eaten up about 3 hours of my brain space and time. I am weeping inside. (and outside)

I have a Microsoft form. The flow is pulling the responses, and for this particular condition, allllllls I'm doing is asking it to grab a response (a choice field between 'yes' and 'no') and if it is equal, send an e-mail, nothing if it's false. It won't even go through the condition and gives me the error " ActionFailed  An action failed. No dependent actions succeeded.". (See screenshot at end)

Flow run history (and sometimes on the condition itself or one of the actions) will show more detail that says the following:

InvalidTemplate. Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Email-ClassesAffected' inputs at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language function 'if' expects its first parameter to be of type boolean. The provided value is of type 'String'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#if for usage details.'.

I've tried to:

  • compose the form response first before the condition and using the "outputs.... yadayada" in the condition. No dice.
  • initialize a variable (tried boolean, string with the appropriate "True" or "Yes" values in the condition) and then set the variable using if statements and forcing the values. No dice, every combo (and didn't put 'true' in single quotes since it's boolean).
  • compose and wrapping an if statement in bool() as per some other fellow community folks suggested. No dice.
  • Deleting the whole dang condition and building it fresh using the same variable as I'd used before that had failed. SUCCESS!!! For exactly one test run, and then second test run, it was broken again.
  • Using the condition with the raw form response output... from memory, I think it's something like 'body('Get_response_details...' yada yada. No dice.
  • I changed some inputs/outputs at the beginning of the flow that have nothing to do with the form responses (a SharePoint get items) just in case something crazy was happening with null items (as another fellow community member suggested). No dice.
  • I read the link that the flow provided in the error message, talking about if. I looked at the raw input, and it all looks groovy to me (from my limited knowledge). So... no dice.

And now I'm just sad and tired and maybe a tiny bit angry/frustrated.

The variable WillAClassBeAffected =

if(equals(body('Get_response_details')?['re896604de80740658d389e1364b0f158'],'Yes'),'Yes','No')

The output of the variable, composing the output of the answer itself = Yes
When I made the variable boolean and passed the information to it, it yielded 'true'; same with composing and wrapping in bool().

Hi @Nunya1

It is not the condition action that fails but subsequent action 'Email-ClassesAffected' is failing. In that action, you have set some expression using if function which sometimes break due to input value. Please verify the expression used in 'Email-ClassesAffected' action for the failed cases.

If this helps & solves your problem, please remember to give a 👍 and accept my solution as it will help others in the future.

Ok! Giving it a shot to find the pesky if statement! Will report back!

Oh my gosh. I think I found it.... This guy in the body of my e-mail:

if(body('Get_response_details')?['re896604de80740658d389e1364b0f158'],'a class will be affected','a class will not be affected')

Which should be:

if(equals(body('Get_response_details')?['re896604de80740658d389e1364b0f158'],'Yes'),'a class will be affected','a class will not be affected')

Isn't she a thing of pure beauty??? 😭

Thank you, thank you, thank you, @ManishSolanki . You have saved my day off and contributed to future good rest. Hallelujah.
