Hey @rpskt

I don't believe you can do this natively.

You can use the Encodian 'Convert Excel' to do this - https://support.encodian.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360011804178-Convert-Excel

Example here: https://blog.encodian.com/2020/09/convert-excel-and-csv-files-in-power-automate/

@rpskt

As of now there is no free way to convert CSV into Excel in MS Flow. But someone suggested in this thread- https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/Help-with-convert-excel-based-csv-to-xlsx/m-p/595...

i did not tested this link. You can try.

Thanks

I know this post is already solved, but here is a way to convert csv to excel for free. It is a premium connector which means that your mobile app will require Plan 2, I believe. But it is free.

How to Convert CSV to XLSX in Power Automate and Logic Apps - Bing video

@awalker - The Encodian connector is a standard connector, therefore you do not need additional Power Automate licencing, your Microsoft / Office 365 licences will provide access to the connector.

There is a free SKU available (50 actions per month) or paid licences for higher throughput - https://www.encodian.com/pricing

@Jay-Encodian I see. I must have tested my flow more than 50 times while building it then, because now my powerapps mobile app has me locked out until I extend the lisence. The online version still works fine and the flows still run, but the mobile app won't.

@awalker What do you mean by 'locked out', this is nothing to do with the Encodian connector... a connector is just simply called, there shouldn't be any difference whether you consume online or via a mobile app. Why do you think this is related to the Encodian connector? (or any connector)

After I added an excel connector and the "CVS to Excel" Cloudmersive connector to my flow, my mobile app said that I needed to extend my trial. Our company has the full licensing for this product, as far as I know, and I've been using the mobile app for over a year without any problems until then.

I don't know that it is related to the cloudmersive connector, but that's the only changing variable to what I've been doing with Powerautomate and Powerapps.

I think this is possible, without premium or third party connectors....

Convert the CSV to JSON.

Then once you have the JSON you can use an Office Script or the action to add rows to populate excel.

This is of course not a straight "Conversion" - but the result is the same.

Thanks! I will try that

Did you get this sorted ?

Nope. I have to extend the mobile app version every 30 days since this thread.

Ah..ok. I use the Web version and I'll have to do the same as well. Quiet frustrating.

I realize you are talking about doing this in a cloud flow but Power Automate Desktop can do this if you have the option of using PAD in your environment. Convert a CSV file into an Excel spreadsheet - Power Automate | Microsoft Docs

I created a free CSV to JSON template for these types of scenarios. It only uses the built-in actions and it can handle several of the common parsing errors, even in large files.

There is also a way to convert a CSV-File to an Excel-File using Office-Scripts
Please see Convert CSV files to Excel workbooks - Office Scripts | Microsoft Docs

Just followed this tutorial, unfortunately all the text in the resulting excel file is wrapped in double quotes. [Cocom, Marta] becomes ["Cocom, Marta"]. Would you know of anything I could add to fix this? Maybe an extra line or two to add to the Office Script to get of these?

@KF0318 My input csv data was the same and I got the same results using Office Excel Script example.

Try the update below, add after this section:

// Remove the preceding comma.
      row.forEach((cell, index) => {
        row[index] = cell.indexOf(",") === 0 ? cell.substr(1) : cell;
      });

It will remove all double quotes from the cells, this works for my data, hope it works for you too!

Add this:

// Remove all double quotes
      row.forEach((cell, index) => {
        row[index] = cell.replace(/"/g,"");
      });

You can now try automatically converting most CSVs to a new Excel table with the same column names as the CSV headers with this template:

I realize this has been answered and it was years ago. But using the desktop version:

Launch Excel action, choose the csv file

Close Excel action and choose save as and change the extension to xlsx and it works.
