I'm using Power Automate through Power BI and I have a column of email addresses.
1. I used a Filter Array to get a list of email address from the "Email" column.
2. Then I used a Compose w/ Union to get a list of distinct emails addresses.
I want to send emails to that list but the "To:" field needs a string value so I then converted it to a string using another Compose, and ended up with this:
["email1@email.com","email2@email.com","email3@email.com"]
What I'm trying to do is send emails out using each of those email addresses but I can't seem to parse this into individual email addresses. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after much trial and error I was able to resolve this by Parsing the Join JSON
If you know you will only ever have three emails in this flow, you can index the array three times and concatenate each to one big string:
concat(outputs('Compose')[0], '; ', outputs('Compose')[1], '; ', outputs('Compose')[2])
Let me know if this helps!
Then, use this expression in the email address field for sending emails to parse it:
I'm just testing with three emails but there will be more and it will vary from time to time.
Did you try the second step in my solution?
Similar issue. This reduces it down to an email list, but when I try to "apply to each" with a send and email, I get them all in one long string in the "To:" field:
OpenApiOperationParameterTypeConversionFailed. The 'inputs.parameters' of workflow operation 'Send_an_email_(V2)' of type 'OpenApiConnection' is not valid. Error details: Input parameter 'emailMessage/To' is required to be of type 'String/email'. The runtime value '"email1@email.com,email2@gmail.com,email3@gmail.com"' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'string/email'.
Can you send a screenshot of the flow?
You can add an expression into the "To" field on the "Send an email" step which should eliminate that issue along with the "apply to each" step. Additionally, I noticed this '"email1@email.com,email2@gmail.com,email3@gmail.com"' is separated by commas, they need to be separated by a semicolon (the delimiter)
Not sure I understand the issue now. Do you want to send a separate email to each email?
As it is standing right now, it should send the same email to all emails in the list
Yes, looking to send separate emails to each email address.
Looks like my quick tips ends here then, I'd have to look into that. I hope you solve your issue my friend.
Can you please post your solution here. I am facing a simialr issue. Not able to get to convert the array of emails into a string seperated my semicolon.
Absolutely,
1. Run your flow to get the email array output
2. Copy the output, including the brackets:
3. Add a new step; Parse JSON.
4. Click "Generate From Sample" and paste the array output into the space at the top line (including the brackets).
5. Click ok and it should generate something similar to what's in the "schema" space below.
5. Content should come from from email step.
And that should give you a list of email addresses, comma separated.
Thanks for the solution.
I want handle null values in the email field as well. Can we somehow Ignore null values in the array?
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Also, i want to add dynamic content of the correspoding row values of the filtered emails, when sending emails of the correspoding row values of the filtered emails.
like
I want to add the highlighted titles and ticket owners in the subject line when sending emails to respective distinct emails.
So ideallly skip through 2nd and 4th entries. to avoid overload of sending emails for every title.
Hope i was clear in explaining.
Cheers,
For that you want to add a filter array:
1. Get your email addresses
2. Apply a filter array to remove nulls
3. Parse JSON of the filter array results
For this you'll do an "Apply to Each". The output will be the output of your compose step. Then add "Send an Email" as a child of the Apply to Each. From here you should get the dynamic content. I'm not sure about doing every-other email but this will cycle through each email address and apply the dynamic fields to each for each email address row:
