Hello,
I am trying to copy a SharePoint list from one SharePoint site to another. I have it almost working it copies everything but a column with "Person or Group" type. I researched this a little and it was suggested that I use the Initialize variable followed by an append to array variable. The flow works but nothing populates for that particular column. Flow looks like this:
So I don't think it's actually capturing the array/ contents of the column. Any thoughts? Thanks
Hi @ice2921
If this is a is a People Only column and multiple people selections are not allowed, then you can simply use their email address:
To update a People column where multiple selections are allowed we must use an array as you seem to have done.
The array must be formatted as an array of JSON objects as the examples below will illustrate.
To help debug the problem, please add a compose action containing the array variable. Then examine the content of the compose action after the flow has run.
Please share the output of the compose action.

Thank you for the response. I think that I have another issue here in that some of the original users are not valid users anymore so Im not sure if that will break things. Ideally in that case i Would just like to copy the text data but I dont know if thats possible on a people or group column type. Secondly, the original column type allows for multiple selections. Finally, I added, the compose statement is I got the following results:
Hi @ice2921 ,
You must use a valid user account that exists in your Azure Ad/Entra ID or any Create/Update actions will fail with an error.
If the claims value is null, the flow will likely run, but no change will be made to the person column when creating or updating an item.

Thanks. So I guess I have no way to add removed users. Is the reason that the flow is placing nothing in the column because a user does not exist? Does it just stop if one user does not exist?
Hi @ice2921 ,
(1) If the user does not exist in your Azure AD/Entra ID the flow will error: "The specified user ####### could not be found":
(2) If the claims value is null (i.e. the claims has no value set), the flow will run but no change will be made to the person column when creating or updating an item:

I'm mostly getting the null behavior, but I do know that there are many users that exist. So it must be something else.
Hi @ice2921
Can you share screenshots of the action where you get the Attendee value from (i.e. the source action).
If users exist, then the Attendee value should not be empty or null.

My flow looks like this from a high level:
There is a create item step after this but I removed it until i figure this issue out. If I run the flow as is right now i get the following error:
Hi @ice2921 ,
You could try the following flow:
Here are the actions within the Apply to each loop:

Oddly enough I don't have a claims option for the filter array action:
Hi @ice2921 ,
Try searching for the Dynamic content using the search box:
If that doesn't work, add a compose action as shown below, then please share the runtime output of the Compose action:

Hi @ice2921 ,
Unfortunately, the answer is no.
When you set the value of a Person column, that person (i.e. user account) must already exist within MS 365 tenant (Azure AD/Entra ID).
A workaround for you could be to create a new Text column, then populate that column with the display name of the account that don't exists in your MS 365 tenant. This way, you wont loose this user account information.
