Expression Result False when trying to Get Items from a SharePoint List for a Second level of approval

Hi,

I’ve created a flow with two level of approvals:

1. The first approval goes to the Line Manager of the Employee based on the email address entered on Microsoft Forms.
2. For the second level of approval- I’ve created a SharePoint List with a list of Departments(Title) and the corresponding approvers (Approver). The Department option chosen on the Microsoft Form should drive the choice of who the second approver would be.

The first level of approval works fine. However when I try to Get Items from the SharePoint List (Training Request Approvers List) and run the below condition

Title is equal to Department value , I get the below error

- This is the Create Item Action which updates a separate SharePoint list that displays the forms which were submitted:

- This is the Get Items Action which looks at the Training Request Approvers List which is maintained separately:

 I would appreciate if someone can advise how to get this to work as I'm fairly new to Flows.

Hi @amithelaoo 

Check the run history and see both values? Remember the Text comparison is case sensitive so you may need to convert both values to toLower() or toUpper() using flow expression.

The Flow History just shows the below to me:

The department name is mentioned on the Form and the List in the same way using the below combination of Upper case and Lower case values;

Hi @amithelaoo 

Could you add two compose action steps above the IF condition. Map the title and department under the compose step. Run the flow. Check the run history.

Hi @amithelaoo,

You can create 2 variables and then assign the values to these 2 variables. In that way you can check whats the value you are getting and comparing.
Also as @abm  the condition is case sensitive. Please check if there is any trailing space in any of the values. Try using trim function and then compare.

I've just added two compose actions as you suggested and added the Title and Department  Value under the compose step and it's giving me the below values:

The Title is being picked up as 360-Commercial which is the first one on the sharepoint list, wherein I want it to pick the one which is being chosen on the Microsoft Form by the user

Dear @amithelaoo ,

You have used Get Items. It will retrieve 100 records from your list if you are not using pagination. Check if your loop is running more than once, if it is then you will have a condition where its true. 

If you only want to get the record that user has selected on the forms try Get Items with filter query.

Title is the column name of your list and Department is the value that user has selected.

Thanks @abm and @Ramiz for your help, the flow seems to be running fine now. I manually entered the Department names on the Microsoft Forms and the SharePoint list to ensure that there is no trailing space after the department name. This seems to have fixed the issue as I'm getting the second level of approval to flow through. Thanks again
