Filter a date between a date range into a folder

Hello Community,

  1. I have an issue that might have to do with my limited understanding of how Power automate reads dates or how it evaluates parallel condition statements.

I have a power app that creates pdf reports and puts them into a SharePoint document library. The flow is supposed to read the date within the title of the pdf document. Based on the date, it will put it in the appropriate folder.  The folders are basically quarterly (every three months). The date "2-2-2024" would go into the Winter folder (Jan - March) and 7-1-2024 would go into the spring (includes summer) folder April 2024 - August 2024, and so on.

You probably know where I'm going...the flow condition statements are not working.

The format of the Date in the document

Four branches to evaluate the outputted date.

  1. If 'Start Date' is "greater than 04-01-2024" and "less than "08-30-2024" (Spring 2024)
  2. If 'Start Date' is "greater than 09-01-2024" and "less than "12-31-2024" (Fall 2024)
  3. If 'Start Date' is "greater than 01-01-2025" and "less than "03-31-2025" (Winter 2025)
  4. If 'Start Date' is "greater than 04-01-2025" and "less than "08-30-2025 (Spring 2025)

Don't know if there is a better way to do this

1 of 4 Condition statements

For the Date "07-20-2024", "Spring 2024" is "False" and "Spring 2025" is "True" in the flow's evaluation; the other two are false as well. I haven't gotten a correct evaluation for any date I've entered. Should I be using the native time stamp, or something else?

Thank you in advance!

okay, changing the format was on the right track.  I had to change the date to UTC, and I used the Convert to UTC formula. All the conditions had to be changed to UTC also. Example, "Greater than "2024-04-01T00:00:00.000000"

@Dianez

In your condition, try changing the "Or" to "And" and test.

Please let me know if this resolves your issue.

I tried switching all the conditions to "OR" and they came back all "true", so that didn't work.

Usually dates in conditions need to be in ISO8601 format. You may want to try that to see if it works. The ISO8601 format is yyyy-MM-dd.

@Dianez

Logically, the condition must be set to And.  Otherwise, a value of 09/30/2024 would evaluate to true because it meets one of the two conditions.  That matches what you have in your description:

Four branches to evaluate the outputted date.

If 'Start Date' is "greater than 04-01-2024" and "less than "08-30-2024" (Spring 2024)
If 'Start Date' is "greater than 09-01-2024" and "less than "12-31-2024" (Fall 2024)
If 'Start Date' is "greater than 01-01-2025" and "less than "03-31-2025" (Winter 2025)
If 'Start Date' is "greater than 04-01-2025" and "less than "08-30-2025 (Spring 2025)

Thank you for posting. I tried that and I got "False" for everything.  That solution made sense to me.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work either.

So basically, you had to change the date format to ISO8610?

Essentially, yes. I went about it by copying the utc format everywhere, so I wouldn't screw it up. All those zeros seem like overkill, but it works.
