Flow failing due to blank date field

I have a flow that is connected to a Form which generates a SharePoint list. The Form has multiple date fields in it and when those have no data in them, the flow fails to update the SharePoint list.

How can I get it to ignore the blank date fields and continue to enter all the data into the list?

expression for you

if(equals(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null),'',outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

explaination- if your date has null value then output is '' means no value . And if not then output should be original date.

Thanks

@khaycock ,

Can you please check if the columns that you are using to save the date fields of form are specified as Required fields in SharePoint list ?

If columns are required, please set them as optional using the List Settings and then try to save the form again.

If they are not required, can you please share the error message you are getting in flow while adding an item.

If this answered your question, please mark this question as answered and if you liked my response, please consider giving it a thumbs up .
Thank You !!!

I tried that but my compose is named different:

if(empty(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null,outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

However when I put that in the expression box, it says it's invalid?

@khaycock

you did not closed empty bracket And missed singled quotes.

Please try this-

if(empty(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null),'',outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

@khaycock

Thanks

Hi @Hardesh15

I copied your formula instead thanks but it still failed with this message:

'The template language function 'empty' expects one parameter: the object, array or string to test for emptiness. The function was invoked with '2' parameter(s).

@khaycock

Sorry i did not notice that you changed equals with empty.

if(equals(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null),'',outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

try this

Hi @Hardesh15

Still no luck. Below is some screenshots from my flow. I have 4 different dates but I'm only focusing on the lease start date for now. I can't get a full screenshot of the expression but I'll copy and paste it below too..

 compose.PNGexpression.PNGerror.PNG

if(equals(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null),'',outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

@khaycock

It is working at my end- i am exactly using same expression

Hardesh15_0-1602358065586.png

Please add one more compose after lease start date compose and then use this formula-

if(equals(outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'),null),'',outputs('Compose_lease_start_date'))

Oh so will I need 2 lots of compose for each date? What do I put into the sharepoint column?

@khaycock

Simply put output of that compose in SharePoint Column. From my last post it should be Compose 4 output.

here you will put output of your lease start date compose-

Hardesh15_0-1602358569725.png

There is another way for this but i do not want to confuse you at this moment.

Thanks

Hardesh

I did the second compose and still no luck.. I've even removed the other date fields to see if it was one of them messing it up but the lease start still failed

@khaycock

Can you show me output of running flow one with date value and one with null value. i need screen of this part- run your flow and show me input output value.

Hardesh15_0-1602359730241.png

They are both blank

@khaycock

It is running fine. It means that your lease date does not have date that is why it is showing as blank. Now pass Lease date 2 compose output to SharePoint column.

Thanks

Hardesh

I did and it's still failing 😞

The 'inputs.parameters' of workflow operation 'Create_row_on_Job_Requests_4' of type 'OpenApiConnection' is not valid. Error details: Input parameter 'item/Lease_x0020_start_x0020_date' is required to be of type 'String/date'. The runtime value '""' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'String/date'.

Do I need to change my sharepoint column to be text instead of date? Would that help?

@khaycock

can you show me your SharePoint lease date column? Go to list setting then click on lease date column then share screen.

Thanks

Hardesh
