Flow to transfer fields from one SharePoint List to another

New to flows, using SharePoint coming from a CDS background. Trying to do something simple but failing miserably...

I have 2 SP lists, List 1 and List 2.

I need to transfer a field from one to another, based on a docID linking them both on a  1-N relationship.

2 fields of interest.

List1: DocID (unique) - MultiLineTextField1

List 2: DocID (multiple occurences) - AnotherMultiLineTextField2

So the flow should run through all rows in List1 and write the MultiLineTextField1 value into the List2 field (AnotherMultiLineTextField2) where the DocIDs match.

I've built more and more convuluted flows that all seem to fail somewhere. I seem to get confused with my apply to each loops which multiply out of my control. Can someone point me in the right direction to start with 🙂

You could use Filter Query to filter items first and update the items in List 2.

I assume that DocID is a number filed, please check the following image to configure flow.

When you configuring update item action, you only need to configure the field you want to update and leave other fields blank.

I just thought, the DocumentID in List 2 is a lookup field to List 1 - is that causing me the issues?

I copied your example and the flow succeeds, but does not get to the update Item stage. It runs the previous stage correctly but then ends. Screenshots below of the Flow and the output which does not show much!

This is the expected result, the result filtered by Filter Query may be empty. So Update item action will not be executed.

You can click Next to view other execution results.

Please ensure that the type of DocumentID is Number, and do not set Limit Columns by view.

Hmm.

I have tried a few alternatives but it seems like the DocumentID being a lookup to a number field in List 2 may be the issue.

I went back to the old trusty XCOPY in Excel, where it took me 5 minutes after spending hours on Flow. Sometimes the old ways are better.

If the DoeumentID is a lookup column, my method does not work for this. It only works for the Number column.

If so, you could Get item action to get the item in list 1 directly.

You could fill DocumentID Id in Get item action to get the specified item in List.
