Hi,

I am building a flow and I can get sender's email address "From" but how can I get Sender's Display Name?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi @adelmonte,

There are multiple different types of export by the looks of it, some where the display name is wrapped in double quotes and some where it is not. I don't know if it is going to have any other formatting. If you are focusing on an email from a particular sender, then it might be worth only triggering it based on the email address (as this doesn't change) you can do this in the show advanced options within "When a new email arrives V3" Trigger. Hopefully, by doing this it should prevent any other emails failing this flow if there are other variations.

Hopefully, this solution will resolve your issue....

From the variations that I encountered, like I said, one contained double quotes, 1 did not. Based on that, I have created the below flow

Redders_2-1666012506554.png

To start with, I initialised a variable called "Display Name"

Redders_3-1666012556516.png

I then created a condition with the following expression in the left

split(split(outputs('Export_email_(V2)')?['body'],'From: ')[1],' <')[0]

Contains as the operator and a double quotes in the right

This condition looks for the display name checks to see if it is contained within quotes

If it does contain double quotes (If Yes), I then update the Display Name variable with this expression

split(split(split(split(outputs('Export_email_(V2)')?['body'],'From: ')[1],' <')[0],'"')[1],'"')[0]

Redders_5-1666012797020.png

If it does not contain double quotes (If No), then I update the Display Name variable with this expression

split(split(outputs('Export_email_(V2)')?['body'],'From: ')[1],' <')[0]

You can then use the variable Display Name in your create file

You need to use the get user profile and enter in the email address

Redders_0-1665992625063.png

This will then provide the display name as dynamic content

@Redders Thanks for your reply!
But this is not correct in my case 😞
I need to get the senders display name whom I don't know
not a display name of a specific email address that I specify
I hope I was more clear now.
Thanks Alex

Hi @adelmonte,

Use the dynamic content 'From' from the When a new email arrives (V3) trigger.

As long as they are internal, you should be able to get their display name

Is the user/email on your Active Directory?

the email is not in my Active Directory but what happens is that I get even from the same email address different display names as it is department email sometimes sends Eva and sometimes John the email but the email address is the same that's why I need to get Display Name in addition to the email address.

Hi @adelmonte,

We all learn something new each day and I have just learned this..

Add an export email action following your trigger. I then used a compose with this expression to extract the Display Name however, you could use the expression anywhere you need

split(split(outputs('Export_email_(V2)')?['body'],'From: "')[1],'"')[0]

Hi @Redders
Thank you very much for your answer.
I think we are getting close 🙂

I get now this error

adelmonte_0-1666003976769.png

InvalidTemplate. Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Compose' inputs at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language expression 'split(split(outputs('Export_email_(V2)')?['body'],'From: "')[1],'"')[0]' cannot be evaluated because array index '1' is outside bounds (0, 0) of array. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions for usage details.'.

What am I doing wrong?

adelmonte_1-1666004043055.png

My final goal would be to save the attachment of the email with senders display name (outputs)
