Get the value/label of a choice column Dataverse to add in the body of email

Hi,

I have a flow that send and email with some columns value of a Dataverse row.

Some columns are choice type and in the email by default I get the ID of the choice entered and I need the value of them.

The choice columns are:

companyitem
actionitem

And they allows multiples values.

I see that the "label" of them are in:

cr815_companyitem@OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue
cr815_actionitem@OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue

But I do not know how to apply in the flow.

Is there any example to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @EmilioRoqueta69 ,

For this example, I will be using the 'Created by' column, which follows the same logic from a choice column. As you already know, the 'Formattedvalue' returns the display value that I need in my flow:

However, you probably won't be able to find this property in the dynamic content list:

As a workaround, you can access it by writing an expression. As you can see below, I created 2 string variables, one that will store the dynamic content of 'Created by' value and other that will store the 'Created by formatted value', obtained via expression (I'm assuming here that you are using a loop, as you did in the previous post):

rzaneti_2-1692357992779.png

My expression is: item()?['_createdby_value@OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue'], where the red text may be replaced for the exactly name of the property that you identified (cr815_companyitem@OData.Community.Display.V1.FormattedValue).

To add an expression in Power Automate, you just need to open the 'Dynamic content' pane and change the tab to expression (highlighted in yellow). You can enter the expression in the 'Fx' input (highlighted in green) and just click in 'OK' once you finish.

Output:

After run the flow, this is my result: the 'user' variable is storing the id (highlighted in yellow), while the 'user_formatted' is returning the 'display name' related to that id (highlighted in green):

Let me know if it works for you or if you need any additional help!

This is crazy... why can't Microsoft simply return the display.formatted.value and make it available to choose in the data picker, avoiding parsing?

Hi Emilio

You probably solved this, but there are some point I want to add.

The suggested answer uses 'item' because you are in a loop.

In any other type of action use:

Select any value from the suggested ones.

Ralucad_0-1709043565984.png

Highlight it and press ctrl+c  to copy it to the clipboard.

Paste it in notepad. This is the result

@{triggerOutputs()?['body/new_username']}

Now you can replace the field name with the formatted value and copy it back

If you are in a condition, remove the @{} and past the remaining text into the expression input.

Hope this helps
