HTML to text action adds unwanted newline to string

Hi all,

I've been trying to take specific values from an email using HTML to text and then a filter array. However, the string i'm trying to take gets an unexpected newline added into it.

The input html looks like this:

{|one|two|3333.333.33333||some name|This description is probably gonna be too long anyway|}

but the HTML to text output looks like this:

{|one|two|3333.333.33333||some name||This description is probably gonna
be too long anyway|}

 Which the filter array input then takes like this:

  "{|one|two|3333.333.33333||some name||This description is probably gonna",
  "be too long anyway|}",

I've got the test results pictured below:

HTML to textHTML to textFilter arrayFilter array

If anybody knows how to avoid this and keep the string as a single line, i'd highly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hi @MKData95

Thanks for sharing the details. If you are extracting the text inside {} then you could get that in the compose action using the below expression:

ManishSolanki_0-1702537803808.png

replace(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'{')),'}')),decodeUriComponent('%0A'),'')

The output of compose action will give the desired text.

If this helps & solves your problem, please remember to give a 👍 and accept my solution as it will help others in the future.

Hi @MKData95

Pls use expression to convert output of compose to array:

ManishSolanki_1-1702553016831.png

createArray(outputs('Compose'))

Similarly, use expression in map value object to extract the value:

ManishSolanki_2-1702553097410.png
trim(split(item(),'|')[1])

Thanks a lot, they're shown below:

Thanks a lot, that did the job.

I do have a follow up question: I used to map the array using a Select action but that's not possible using the Compose output as input for the Select action (probably because it's not an array). what would be the correct way to do this using the Compose output as input?

this worked using my old Filter Array > Select method: Select.png

Hey @ManishSolanki, sorry to bother you but i have another follow up question.

The expression you gave me works fine, it takes the values between the curly brackets and no longer has the newlines in the compose output. However, I figured that the newlines are already there in the output of the HTML to text action:

{|user\nname|Company|Customer|2356.488.67229|R123582181|346813|Description\nlonger}

It randomly adds an \n where a space would be in the username and description.

The output of my compose action would then be:

|username|Company|Customer|2356.488.67229|R123582181|346813|Descriptionlonger

Removing the newlines but also the spaces from the original email input.

The compose action's expressions is the one you send me:

replace(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'{')),'}')),decodeUriComponent('%0A'),'')

Is there a way to first replace the \n with a space, but only the newlines between the curly brackets?

Best regards

Hi @MKData95

There is a minor change in the expression, we would replace new line '\n' character with space instead of empty string. Here is the updated expression:

replace(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'{')),'}')),decodeUriComponent('%0A'),' ')

If this helps & solves your problem, please remember to give a 👍 and accept my solution as it will help others in the future.
