Hide empty values in email body

Hello,

 

I am capturing form fields in SharePoint, then running a flow to send out an email when a new form is submitted. 

 

Since not all form fields are required, is there a way to format the email body to only display fields that have answers?  "Send Email v2" automatically adds breaks between fields (see screenshots), leaving a gap when a field is blank.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Instead of inserting a line break after each dynamic content item, you will need to use an expression. Your dynamic content will need to appear as a single line (example below).

Your expression would look something like this:

if(not(empty(item()?['Dynamic Content Tag Here'])), concat(item()?['Dynamic Content Tag Here'], '<br>'), '')

Because you are using an expression, the dynamic content will not be available to select from which is why you will need to use the item() function to access it. 


Example:
This expression uses the item() function to access the Asset Description column content in my SharePoint list.

if(not(empty(item()?['AssetDescription')), concat(item()?['AssetDescription'), '<br>'), '')

Alternatively, you can use a Compose action to store your dynamic content, and then use that in your expression. 


This expression uses the outputs from the Compose action that is storing the Asset Description Compose Action output. 

if(not(empty(outputs('Compose_-_Asset_Description'))), concat(outputs('Compose_-_Asset_Description'), '<br>'), '')

Thanks everyone and in particular @creativeopinion. I needed to do this when a new item is added to a Dataverse table, but only display it in the email and Teams chat message when it is not blank. I noticed some of the above examples have some missing closing brackets. Based on the one above that seems to be correct: 

if(not(empty(item()?['Dynamic Content Tag Here'])), concat(item()?['Dynamic Content Tag Here'], '<br>'), '')

I adapted it to work with my Dataverse trigger action, and this worked for me. As you can see, I also added the text prefix: "First Name: "

 

So, I used:

if(not(empty(triggerOutputs()?['body/myCompanyName_firstname'])), concat('First Name: ',triggerOutputs()?['body/myCompanyName_firstname'], '<br>'), '')
 
The Dataverse column logical name is called 'myCompanyName_firstname' and I am getting it from the trigger action.

I just found that for my Yes/No (True/False) columns, the above solution failed due to seeing a null instead of an empty, so I used the following  similar expression instead to only show if the column is true (or Yes):

 

if(equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/myCompanyName_formattached'],true), concat('Form Attached: ',triggerOutputs()?['body/myCompanyName_formattached'], '<br>'), '')

 

Where the Yes/No Dataverse choice column's logical name was: myCompanyName_formattached

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!    This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
