Question: How can I send an approval in power automated to the corresponding area managers when a user selects one or more areas?

For example, if the user selects tech training bay, tech center exterior, and unipart office. The area managers for each area will receive an approval request.

Hey, 

How are you doing?  The best way to do this is to create a SharePoint list, with an item for each listed and then a person field and list the person who you need to do the approval.  You can then do a list items step against the SharePoint list and select the one that you need.

Alternatively, you could use the Office 365 connector, but I think that would be harder to do and would rely on your AD being up to date and the manager function being used.

You will just have to set up conditions for each one checking to see if the answer contains one of the answers.

Condition - "Select the appropriate restricted area access" contains "Tech Training Bay"

If yes, send email to the person for that department (or add their name to a string variable containing the email addresses for all of those who need the email, and send 1 email at the end to all). 

And continue with each answer

You could create separate workflows for each area with a trigger condition that only runs if that area is selected. You can follow this blog post on how to generate the trigger condition for multiple-choice fields: Power Automate trigger condition based on SP multiple choice field value (tomriha.com). Essentially it comes down to this expression:

@contains(xpath(xml(json(concat('{"body":{"value":', triggerOutputs()?['body/Areas'], '}}'))), '/body/value/Value/text()'), 'Tech Training Bay')

In the above, "Areas" would be replaced by the internal name of the field for your multiple-choice values. And then of course you would update 'Tech Training Bay' to the corresponding value for each flow.

This way, if three areas are selected, three workflows will run. If only one is selected, only one flow would run. This gives you flexibility to customize each flow to the area and all of the approvals can happen at once.

Of course, you could use the above expression in conditions as others have suggested, but that will most likely take longer to process since with each approval you will need to wait for a response before you can go on to the next one.
