How to get a flow to pull data from a table and not fixed as per my example

I have access to the DVLA (UK Vehicle licensing) database through an API key.  The key allows a maximum call of 10 registrations per second.

I have set up a flow that will collect the data for 1 vehicle to get things started (I am new to this and only just learning the great things Power Automate can offer me).  I have a list in an excel table of over 350 registrations.

I believe I can put in a loop to get the next registration, with a break to pause to keep within the 10 per second rule but what do I put in the HTTP box to pull the next registration from the excel table as opposed to being hard fixed as shown below:

Many thanks.

Andy

Hi @Anonymous

Under the Body of your http remove the hardcoded value including the double quotes. So you left with

"registrationNumber" :

Place the cursor at the end and on your right hand side you can see dynamic content. Click the registration number dynamic field from the list. It will map into your body. Also you might notice that Power Automate will put a loop automatically where it can iterate more than one values from Excel.

Thanks

Hi @abm,

Thank you for the speedy response.  I have tried what you say but I do not get any Dynamic content apart from the "Normal" ones:

Can, you think of anything else I may be doing wrong.

Cheers  Andy

It's not clear to me what the data source is for the registration numbers as you do not show that in your flow. But I am going to assume it is an Excel Table.

This should be the broad sequence of events:

  1. List rows present in a table.
  2. Use the rows to generate a loop.
  3. Execute the http action based on the registration number.
  4. Write the results of the http action out to Excel.
  5. Add a delay to make sure you don't overload the DVLA.

I think you are still missing the loop bit?

Any Kerridge or ADP system involved in this project?

Hi @Paulie78.  Thank you for commenting.

My Registration data is in an excel table:

Screenshot 2.png

I list Rows present in a table with a count of 10:

Screenshot 3.png

And I am using "Apply to each":

Screenshot 4.png

The Parse JSON runs and should "Add a row into a table"

But this returns an error and no data is added to the destination file.

Thanks in advance.  Andy

Looks like you are almost there, the parsing of the output should be quite straightforward. It would be helpful if you could take a screenshot of the entire flow then I'm sure it can be sorted out easily.:

https://www.tachytelic.net/2020/10/screenshot-entire-flow-power-automate

Banging the data into Excel is easy as you know. What is your error on the Parse JSON? If you go into the run history does your HTTP Request have sensible output?

Thanks, The link was very useful.

I have screenshotted below:

Screenshot_LI.jpg

The run just produced the following error:  Action 'Parse_JSON' failed.

The top of Parse JSON says : ValidationFailed.  The schema validation failed.

In the Content box it displays all the expected data for each vehicle.

Thanks

Yes, now the problem is clear. You are doing all the HTTP requests in one loop (therefore creating an array of objects. You need to shift your parse json and add row to a table actions to be within the apply to each loop.

I am really sorry but you have lost me at this stage, I am only in week 2 of learning about Power Automate.

Could you explain it a little simpler please?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to keep bothering you.  All was well the first time I ran it but then it failed:

The data generated at the list rows present in table produces registration numbers:

Thanks for getting me this far.  I want to try and find a course provider to learn more and stop imposing on other peoples time.

Look at the output, you can see no registration number was sent along with the API request.
