How to update option set field in flows using the value from the other table?

Hello everyone,

I have flow which updates the records  by using data from external source.

I have table A and table B. Table B contains data from external source. I am creating and updating records in table A using values in table B.

In table B, for option sets i am getting vale as 01 or 02 or 03.

And in table A, i have options as

01-voluntary 

0-Involuntary

Etc.. 

How can I update these values into correct options in table A.

The easiest solution is to just perform a "when a list item is created" automated flow on list b.

Then just map a switch action to those fields in list b, and then populate the correct value to list a.

You can populate a choice column in Power Automate using the 'Custom value' option when using the Update an item action.

I don't want to use 'when record created' as a trigger action, i have different requirement. I am using http request trigger for this flow.

I didn't understand how to use switch action, can you please provide more information on this.

And is there any other way to achieve this, i tried using 'custom value' but its not populating the value.

Hi, @Anonymous, it seems like you need to get some basic learning done with basic flows, first. I'm not saying that insultingly, but just so that you can use the basic functions that Power Automate uses. This will really benefit you going forward. Not just for understanding stuff here, but also for making your own flows. 🙂

Anyway ... A Switch action is just like a Condition (if/then) action except there are more options.

For your purpose I suggest you initialize two empty string variables at the start of your flow:

tableBSwitchStringVAR - This will hold the incoming data from table B.

tableAResultStringVAR - This will hold the outgoing data to table A.

Now create a Switch action (Add an action --> Control --> Switch) and create a 'Case' for every possible value in table B.

In each Case you will perform a Set variable on tableAResultStringVAR, and you can just either set it to what you wish it to be every time. Or, you can just use the value in tableBSwitchStringVAR.

Then, when you go to update table A, you can just call on the variable tableAResultStringVAR. 🙂

If the value from tableB is not one of a set list of items, then you will need to perform more complicated array and JSON work.
