Is there a way to split the email subject into separate columns, one for each word, when retrieving the email subject?

Is there a way to retrieve the email subject and save each word, separated by spaces, as individual columns in Excel, similar to an image?

Thank you in advance.

@hermechin You can use the split() function to split your subject line by a space. The split() function will return an array of items. Essentially returning each word as an item in an array.

The way you build your flow will depend on whether or not the email you always receive is a forwarded email (as you've displayed in your original post).

Please note: For my demo purposes I've stored your exact subject line in a Compose action. Where I've used that Compose action in my demo, you'll need to replace with the Subject dynamic content from the When a New Email arrives trigger.

Split Subject Line by Space

Add a Compose action to your Flow. Insert an expression by selecting the Expression tab. Insert the split() function. With your cursor between the brackets, click on the Dynamic content tab.

I'm inserting the outputs from my Compose action that has the sample Email Subject line. In your flow, you'll need to select the Subject dynamic content.

The split() function takes two parameters.

split([[string],'[separator]')

Add a Comma and single quotes and a space. The space goes between the single quotes to indicate that you want the function to split the string of text (aka the Email subject line) by a space).

creativeopinion_3-1694917788781.png

Run a test.

Review the outputs. The Subject line has now been split into an array. Each word (separated by a space) is an array item.

creativeopinion_4-1694917814940.png

Each array item has an index. The array index starts at [0].

[0]= FW:

[1] = Diversion

[2] = from

[3] = SKWE

... and so on

Return Array Items

These Compose actions are optional. However, it will help you to troubleshoot and better understand what's going on in your flow. I would suggest using them.

Add a Compose action. You'll need to insert an expression. Add the following:

?[]

Between the square brackets is where you'll insert the index number. In your case, to access Diversion, you'll need to insert a 1. Remember, array indexes start at ZERO.

creativeopinion_5-1694918164498.png

Place your cursor at the start of the expression. Tip: Press the up arrow key. Insert the outputs from the Compose action with the split() function (aka the Subject Line Array)

creativeopinion_6-1694918219947.png

Run a test.

creativeopinion_7-1694918272565.png

The test has returned Diversion (second item in the array—[1]). You will need to repeat this for the rest of the array items you'd like to return. Tip:You can click on the expression label to bring it up in the expression tab and copy and paste the expression into another Compose action—adjust the index key.

creativeopinion_8-1694918477396.png

I would recommend using Compose actions for each dynamic content you'd like to add to your spreadsheet.

Add a Scope Action

The Scope action isn't necessary however it makes it very easy to group and collapse all your Compose actions with a single click. Tip: Rename your actions to keep things organized!!

creativeopinion_9-1694918576320.png

Add a Row into a Table

If your Dynamic content is stored in Compose actions, you can insert the Outputs into the appropriate Column fields in the Add a row into a table action.

Hope this helps!
