Issue with Excel File. This workbook couldn't be opened because the file format may not be matching with the file extension

Im having some issues creating a flow to read excel data. For some reason, Flow / OneDrive is saying that the workbook file format doesnt match the extension.

I have a single tab excel file, the flow triggers when an email is received, it saves the file to Onedrive, then uses Excel Online (Business) to get rows in the table. I triggered the flow from an email I sent in and it worked fine in 15 seconds, but then after editing the flow and re-running it using the same trigger the flow runs for 10 minutes and times out saying

"This workbook couldn't be opened because the file format may not be matching with the file extension"

This makes no sense as sometimes it accepts the file and other times it gives this error.

It is a normal .xlsx file. I rebuilt the file and tried again, same issue. I've not had this kind of inconsistent issue before with Power Automate. What is causing this?

My run history is a mix of red and green, failed and succeeded, using exactly the same email. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt work, with no changes to the flow. Cant really use this if its so unreliable.

Hello @chrisingham ,

I solved a similar issue here. Kindly share screenshot of your flow let me assist you with it.

Hi Kojo,

I ran into the same problem creating a flow to upload Excel file from Powerapps to SharePoint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45qSaxyS9Rg

I've followed the exact steps but the excel file that I have uploaded cannot be opened in SharePoint site. The error is the same with @chrisingham .

The excel file could be opened if I drag and drop it inside SharePoint. However, when it is uploaded through PowerApps, I could not open it in SharePoint.

I hope you could help me with my case. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hello @exploringG

Sure, this issue can be fixed when you use the attachment field from SharePoint list in power apps to do the uploads.

Reza Dorrani explained here using the attachment field to upload any file from Power Apps.
Do not hesitate to alert me if you encounter any challenges in the process.

::Please do not forget to give it a Thumbs Up if you like the solution.

Hi @KojoShaddy ,

I have followed the video you suggested here and successfully uploaded excel files into my library. As a matter of fact, it was the first part of the video. Upload excel file using 'Media ->add Picture'.   Then I combined it with another video to import excel file to SharePoint list using PowerApps. It was not easy since I'm still a newbie but  I did it.

Thank you very much for your help!

Best,

Wow, this is awesome, @exploringG
Well done.

Check if below steps works for you.

- Press Windows+R keys, type excel.exe /safe, and click "OK". Loading Excel without templates and add-ins allows you to see if the program works as it should or if it is corrupted.

- If Excel opens normally, check for any add-ins that are causing problems in Excel. Disable the add-ins and click on the "OK" button. Then, restart Excel to check if the problem is fixed. If not, move on to the fixes below.

Regards,
James

Hello @Jamesharper

I think the issues has been fixed now following the video I shared. Actually this issue is due to the tool used in power apps in uploading the file. The file gets corrupted.
