Multiple Approval Workflow needs refining due to nesting limit

The approval flow is triggered when a Form is submitted, gathering contact information from a Sharepoint list (so that approval contacts can be updated separate from Flow). After the first "Department Approval" process, this is sent to the Events team to update another Sharepoint list that has items generated from the submitted Form. The updated items are used in subsequent approval steps.

The problem is that I've hit the limit on the number of nested actions, and I need to add one more.

When you run into Flow limits such as this, the guidance is to break your Flow out into multiple Flows and to call one Flow from the other.  I am assuming that you have already tried to simplify or adjust your Flow logic to avoid the issue.

You could try to change a nest to a parallel branch, then you could have enough nesting to use.

As Scott said, you could try to organize your Flow. There are some parts that can be used independently. You could use the parallel branch.

Like:

It seems that the data you get from Forms is not widely used in the nested parts.

You could use parallel to store the data in Forms in a separate branch using variables.

These variables can be used in other branches.

Hi Barry,

Thank you for your input and suggested flow. Unfortunately, the Forms data is used extensively throughout the entire flow (used in constructing email response messages, and within the details of the Approvals) - so branching in the way you have shown won't work for my situation.

I'll investigate Scott's solution - as a new user to Flow this does look a little intimidating as I will also need to pull data from all the Approval actions, the Sharepoint item, and the initial Form in the final stages of my flow. Why can't we just have more nests 😛

If you want to increase the depth of nesting, you could post your idea in the Flow Ideas forum, so it might be considered for future releases.
