OneNote and the "\n" issue that I cannot seem to solve! Help!

So I have a "Ticket System" which uses a Microsoft Form which then makes decision based on what the user needs and ultimately creates a OneNote Page where I can make notes and work on the ticket. For some reason, when I use Outlook -> OneNote, the formatting is perfect. But if I use forms to OneNote by template it is perfect as well... UNTIL you change the OneNote to HTML. In order to create a Page Title I have to use HTML or I get all of these "Untitled" OneNote Pages. Here is what I got:

Xnip2021-01-30_08-58-35.png

 One we choose whether the Form has Uploads, then it Create an "Add Page to a Section of OneNote using the Variables. Let me show you the Variable WITHOUT uploads:

Xnip2021-01-30_09-00-43.png

I also created a Variable for Page Title:

Xnip2021-01-30_09-02-46.png

One it decides to go through the choice of "If the Form has an Uploaded File" (which works great) it then heads towards updating the Excel Table and then creating the OneNote:

Xnip2021-01-30_09-06-04.png

So here is what the "Create page in a section Medium No Attachments" looks like:

Xnip2021-01-30_09-08-20.png

OK, so the "<title>" code needs to be there because I need the Page Title in OneNote to look correct and the rest is pretty simple...

This is how I typed in the Description blank on the form. You can see in the example below the "\n" is the return characters and I get a big jumble of characters.

Xnip2021-01-30_09-11-30.png

OneNote Was Created with the Proper Title and here is the Body and Title of the OneNote Page.

Results:

Xnip2021-01-30_09-17-26.png

 So... I have tried:

  • Using OneNote with Formatting and not "</>" which works sometimes and sometimes not. If I do that I cannot a page title. Even if I add and UPDATE PAGE and add the title there and "REPLACE" which I end up getting a title of ""
  • I tried email to OneNote, but it just doesn't work right for my Flow

Help. This system is ALMOST perfect. I really need these OneNote Files to look formatted.

Some other easier Questions:

  • If you have Multiple Uploads of a Form, which I do... Can I have multiple files names in the Excel sheet show up like this: "upload.docx,upload2.docx,nextfile.docx..."? All I have been able to do is to get a huge list of text upload code which I have not been able to parse out.
  • I see in "Office 365 Options" you can display a picture of the user. Can that fall into OneNote?
  • Lastly, can you get the uploaded links from the Form Uploads (Which are in OneDrive) and possibly add them to your Planner Card? (See Below)

Any help I can get would be huge. Thank you in advance.

It makes total sense, you are literally (perhaps without knowing it) inserting the newlines into your action. Change your code which is currently like:

<html>
<head>
<title>something</title>
</head>
<body>
stuff here
</body>
</html>

To be like:

<html><head><title>something</title></head><body>stuff here</body></html>

Do you know what I mean?

I edited noteSubject-WITH-ATTACHMENT to include the <html> & <title> code:

Xnip2021-02-04_07-52-40.png

Then used your code with that Variable in the OneNote Action:

replace(variables('noteSubject-WITH-ATTACHMENT'), decodeUriComponent('%0A'), '' )

Like so:

Xnip2021-02-04_07-51-53.png

 That did it! You were right. Thank you!

I believe you need to format your body with Div and Paragraphs/Span Tags  as below:

Mira_Ghaly_0-1612140349138.png

<div style="position:absolute;left:48px;top:115px;width:624px">
<p style="margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span lang="en-AU" style="font-weight:bold">Email: </span><span lang="en-AU">Text</span></p>
<p style="margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span lang="en-AU" style="font-weight:bold">Name:</span><span lang="en-AU">Test 2</span></p>
<br />
</div>

Hope this Helps!

So basically I need to do a DIV for each line?

@PlantBasedCajun

No One Div

and many <p>

Got it... I will try it tomorrow and let you know. Thank you!

So we made progress... Here is my code in my Variable:

Xnip2021-02-01_05-53-23.png

Here is my Code in My OneNote Action:

Xnip2021-02-01_05-54-59.png

 So the Variable sits inside the Code of the OneNote Action. If I dont have the <title>TITLE</title> I cannot get a Title to show up on the OneNote Card... Which works great like this. Now that I have change the code to the DIV I get this OneNote Page:

Xnip2021-02-01_05-57-21.png

As you can, you solved the "\n" between the Code for each Field. I am still Getting them in my Code between the </p> and the next </p>. I had them spaced with a return  before and I got "\n\n"

Clearly the code in the OneNote is affecting this. Can I modify that? Thoughts? You are a huge help by the way.

I haven't followed this thread closely, just skimmed over it. But it seems to me that while your variable does contain valid HTML, it does still contain new lines, which OneNote is interpreting. So why not just remove them all before applying the Create Page action.

So where you are putting your variable into action, try changing it to this expression:

replace(variables('noteSubject-DIV'), decodeUriComponent('%0A'), '' )

or perhaps:

replace(variables('noteSubject-DIV'), decodeUriComponent('%0A'), '<br />' )

HTML line breaks might work better.

As I said I didn't read the thread in detail, but I think this could work for you.

So this worked very well:

replace(variables('noteSubject-DIV'), decodeUriComponent('%0A'), '' )

So here is what it looks like now:

Xnip2021-02-03_12-18-47.png

That made a huge Difference. Any way to remove the "\n" from the HTML in the OneNote Action:

Xnip2021-02-03_12-21-21.png

What do you think? This code has its own "\n" as well.

It makes total sense, you are literally (perhaps without knowing it) inserting the newlines into your action. Change your code which is currently like:

<html>
<head>
<title>something</title>
</head>
<body>
stuff here
</body>
</html>

To be like:

<html><head><title>something</title></head><body>stuff here</body></html>

Do you know what I mean?

I edited noteSubject-WITH-ATTACHMENT to include the <html> & <title> code:

Xnip2021-02-04_07-52-40.png

 That did it! You were right. Thank you!

Well done, would have been nice if you marked one of my answers as your solution though!

Sorry, thought I did... Just did it.

No worries, thank you and well done for sorting.

The solution works indeed quite well for the \n issue. However, does anyone know how to remove the double quotes at the beginning and the end of the created OneNote page?

Yeah I thought that too. I am not sure why those Quotes exist. But I was so happy to get this fixed I left that alone. I am having trouble updating the OneNote Pages using the "Update a OneNote Page" Action.
