Parse Values of Varying Length

Hello,

I have configured a flow that will parse out an email and put the parsed values in a SharePoint list. My flow works great, with one exception: If my parsed values are longer than what I have defined in the expression, they get cut off and are incomplete when in the SharePoint list. Any help is much appreciated Smiley Happy

I want to modify the expression in the 'Compose Meter Name Output' step so that I grab values that are greater than thirty characters without grabbing the next line item:

substring(body('Html_to_text'),outputs('Compose_Meter_Name'), 30)

Hi @Anonymous ,

If you want to extract the text in in the email body, and the email body has a fixed format, you could refer to the following thread to extract the data, perhaps to avoid the problems you are currently experiencing.

Please check this similar thread and see if it helps:

Hi @Anonymous

Use the length expression function to find the length of outputs of 'Compose_Meter_Name'.

length(outputs('Compose_Meter_Name'))

Hi @abm ,

Thanks for your help. Can you please provide some guidance on how I would go about implementing the 'length(outputs('Compose_Meter_Name'))' expression into my Flow? I am relatively new to Flow and I do not understand how to make this work.

Thanks

Hello @abm

Thank you for taking the time to provide the screeshot, I appreciate it. I am having a tough time comprehending the logic of using a condition in my flow. My goal is to cleanly extract the text, regardless of the number of characters it is. In some cases the number of characters can be 3, and sometimes it can be 50. So I'm not confident that your solution is what I am looking for, but I appreciate your time and expertise.

Thanks Again!

Hi @v-bacao-msft ,

Thank you for providing that link. The solution works for 6 of my 8 fields. Would you mind taking a look at the steps that are not working?

This is the format of my email:

Alarm Ref: /743940
Priority: UMS Data Transfer Status (Missing Data Alarms)
Meter Name: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal
Site Name: McElroy Complex Logger
Description: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Missing Data
Logged on: 8/8/2019 3:25 AM
Further Action: Check the power source of the data logger and reset.
Further Detail: There has been no data for this meter in the last 8 hours

The output for 'Description' and 'Logged on' are the two culprits.

Expression for Compose Description Step:

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Description:')),'Logged On:')))

This is what I want returned:

MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Missing Data

This is what is being returned:

MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Missing Data Logged on: 8/8/2019 3:25 AM Further Action: Check the power source of the data logger and reset. Further Detail: There has been no data for this meter in the last 8 hours

Expression for Compose Logged On Step:

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Logged On:')),'Further Action')))

This is what I want returned:

8/8/2019 3:25 AM

This is what is being returned:

Alarm Ref: /743940 Priority: UMS Data Transfer Status (Missing Data Alarms) Meter Name: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Site Name: McElroy Complex Logger Description: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Missing Data Logged on: 8/8/2019 3:25 AM

Thank You!

Hi @Anonymous

Change this from

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Description:')),'Logged On:')))

To

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Description:')),'Logged on:')))

Note: Logged On to Logged on (Small case 'on))

Try it and let me know.

Thanks

Hello @v-bacao-msft ,

Would you mind looking at this? My flow was working fine until recently.

The expression for 'Priority Output' is:

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Priority:')),'(Missing Data Alarms)Meter Name')))

I am receiving the following output for Priority and the bold is what I want:

UMS Data Transfer Status (Missing Data Alarms)
Meter Name: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal
Site Name: McElroy Complex Logger
Description: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal Missing Data
Logged on: 8/8/2019 3:25 AM
Further Action: Check the power source of the data logger and reset.
Further Detail: There has been no data for this meter in the last 8 hours

My expression for 'Meter Name Output' is

trim(first(split(last(split(body('Html_to_text'),'Meter Name:')),'Site Name')))

I am receiving the following output for Meter Name and the bold is what I want:

I am receiving the following output for Priority:

UMS Data Transfer Status (Missing Data Alarms)

Meter Name: MC Cond Return Mtr EFG Gal

Thank you in advance!
