Power Automate flow help needed

I can use some help with a power automate flow. I have a Microsoft form that employee will fill in their training id. I need to capture the id from Microsoft forms and insert it into my flow to update an item in SharePoint.

Picture of question in Microsoft forms

Below Picture;

"Get Item" only the "ID" needs to be dynamic (training id) that is entered into the Microsoft form.

I think I can achieve this by an expression, but not sure what expression to use.. If any one can help it would be much appreciated.

(This flow works if I enter the training id manually, "1 - Thru -100")

@JohnH70 The Id field in the Get Item action must be an integer. The value you returned from your MS Form must be converted from a string to an integer.

Use an expression. Insert the int() function.

Click on the Dynamic content tab and select the appropriate dynamic content from the Get response details action.

Run a test.

Hi @JohnH70 ,

Great start here!  I think you need to use Get Items vs Get Item.  That's because the "id" field is for the SharePoint ID, not your form training ID.

So use Get Items and then filter it to the training ID column equals the dynamic content of the form training ID - this is going to give your the item you want to update.

Then update your item.  Your ID in the update item is the dynamic ID from Get Items.  Then update your training ID and other questions from the form as needed.

Trice,

I tried your suggestion with "get items" instead and the query failed. Says invalid expression. But it has the correct number from the forms of "100" . So close but it still doesn't like something  to start the "update item"

JohnH70_0-1704732892444.png

Hi @JohnH70 ,

So looks like you just need to modify the filter query.  The format is like this:

TrainingID eq 'dynamic_content_from_form_question'

TrainingID is the column name in your list (whatever that is) and inside apostrophes, you put in the dynamic content for the form question (for 100 in your example).

Save, and retest.  Should be good to go.

It still not working, is this formula correct? ... The training id is in the "ID" Column of the employee list.

Flow shows as a success but it is not updating the SharePoint list.

JohnH70_1-1704743079115.png

It won't let me see the data in the summary for the update it has a check mark so I can't tell what is failing. But it does have the "100"

JohnH70_2-1704743259454.png

This works and did update the item but it put in the training id into the cell not the number from form which would be level "1" in this case.

from microsoft form

any thoughts? how to correct?

This actually fixed my issue i needed to change my dynamic information back to original and this solution works like a charm .... Thank you so much!!!

The solution above actually has taken care of the issue. I do appreciate your assistance in this and hope you Monday is going well.

Likewise John!
