Power Automate is treating my Object like an Array so it's causing an error

I have an HTTP request to get certain fields. Then I have a Parse JSON and added a schema. I want to retrieve the value only for the one item, CustFieldID = 704 so that I can get whatever Value for that item. When I add a Condition, Power Automate attempts to add an Apply to each for the 121420 value, then when the flow runs, it gives an error "Value is of type 'Null'. The result must be a valid array. What am I missing in trying to get this flow to work?

Here is the Output of my HTTP.

Thank you for your reply. I see now how you got that to show. Let me try it out on my flow. Again, thank you so much for your help.

These screenshots should help clarify the expressions and content used in the flow:

2021-09-24_19-36-36.jpg2021-09-24_19-33-29.jpg

Note item()['CustFieldId'] (used in the previous post) or item()?['CustFieldId'] (used above) will produce the same results.

Hope this helps.

I did it successfully like you did in building my own Compose Output HTTP. However when I run this process using my flow that contains the HTTP, I don't get the same results.

This is my matching scenario you did.

WilliamLawrence_0-1632509761828.png

This is my flow with the HTTP output at the top.

WilliamLawrence_1-1632509840530.png

So when I run my filter, I get a bad request.

This is what my Compose Value Array expression

OK, one piece of this I didn't think to tell you when posting, the first number under Value changes, depending on the Work Order Id. But it always matches the WorkOrderID field.

WilliamLawrence_4-1632510891504.png

2021-09-24_21-09-58.jpg

So the above property (array) name is not constant and will change according to the WorkOrderID. This does complicate matters! However, if the structure of the data returned by the HTTP action will stay the same then we may be able to reliably extract the ID each time the flow is run - even if the ID changes. We will try to extract this ID by splitting the JSON data (as a string value).

In the updated flow below I have added one new compose action, Compose ID, and updated the Compose Value Array action:

2021-09-24_21-21-58.jpg

Compose ID expression:
split(split(string(outputs('Compose_Output_HTTP')),'"Value":')[1],'"')[1]

Compose Value Array expression:
outputs('Compose_Output_HTTP')?['Value'][outputs('Compose_ID')]

Let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your patience. This is what I received when attempting with my flow with HTTP outputs.

Can you post the sample data you are working on?

I have renamed my compose action to Get WO Custom Fields to try and match your expressions and pasted the expressions I used in the flow:

split(split(string(outputs('Get_WO_Custom_Fields')),'"Value":')[1],'"')[1]

outputs('Get_WO_Custom_Fields')?['Value'][outputs('Compose_ID')]

I tried to at the beginning of the post, but it capped out on characters so I only included a couple of the items from the array, but here is the entire Output body from my 'Get WO Custom Fields' HTTP. So sorry if I should've included this from the beginning. This is my first try on the forums.

Can you re-test using the above data - as this will ensure we are using the exact same data for our flows.

I think I have it. I took your concept of putting the HTTP output in a Compose and from there I then proceed to run the flow using all of your steps and so far it is working properly. I just had to use the HTTP output in a Compose instead of directly from the HTTP Outputs. Thank you so much for your time and for helping me.

That was hard work! 😀

Your original solution worked after I put the HTTP Outputs in the compose, by the way so I'm sorry for the extra work. If I could, I'd buy you your lunch. Thank you again.

Happy to have been able to help!
