in our company we are using SharePoint lists to depict our suppliers and connected data. To discuss new suppliers, some authorized users start a Power Automate Workflow from a new SP list element (Trigger: "For a selected file"). This flow initiates an approving flow etc.
As there are many colleagues involved, the overall time of the flow sometimes has extend 30 days. Unfortunately the flow breaks at 30 days.
As a workaround I build a new flow in a solution which is recurring daily to check for expiration dates (startingTime + 29days). Inside the original flow I`ve inserted check points to continue the flow at the exact point (e.g. once "person a" approved and the flow expires, the checking-flow restarts at "person b", instead of "person a", so that the progress is saved).
The check-flow seems to be working just fine. It accurately checks for the expiration dates and starts the "Yes" in the if-statements.
As i`ve read online (e.g. Call Child Flows - Power Automate | Microsoft Learn) to start a new flow, the child flow (in my case the original workflow) has to have the "Manual trigger" to be triggered by the parent flow ("check-flow").
I can`t simply exchange the initial trigger "For a selected file" as the flow won`t know which file its referring to.
How do I refer to the exact file from the initial flow and its corresponding ID to work with the list parameters of the file/element?

You can create the parent flow and keep its trigger as for a selected file. After that you can add the action, run a child flow. In that pass the id.
After that in the child flow. Keep a manual trigger and in it pass the id as text or number.

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge! This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks. The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”) - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024 Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods. You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately. How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can.
