Send Outlook email w Attachment - runs but error on opening attachment - Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid.

My flow grabs a Sharepoint file and sends it as an Outlook email attachment.  When I go to open the attachment in the email, I get an error saying that Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid.  If I save the file to a drive and then try to open externally in R, I get an error message saying that the file is a zip file.  Any suggestions welcome.

Here is my flow:

Here are the parameters associated with the Send an email step:

Here is the error message when opening directly from the email:

Many thanks for your help!

Switch back to the legacy editor. There's a known bug at the moment that throws an extra BASE 64() around the file content in the new editor. MS is aware and working on a fix. The legacy editor works correctly. The Base64() function that shows in your code shouldn't be there.

Hi @Pstork1 ,

I saw this recent post and hoped that switching back will also do the trick for me (I had to switch back by setting V3=false in the link...). However, when my flow sends me the Excel-Files in a specific folder from Sharepoint, I still get the same error message. I attached some screenshots of the entire flow below - truly appreciate your help because I going currently nuts with this issue....

Following are the expressions that I used

for "apply to each" Body: body('List_Folder')

for "Path": items('Apply_to_each')?['Path']

and Infer Content type is set to yes

for Append to array variable "Name": items('Apply_to_each')?['Name']

for Append to array variable "$content": body('Get_file_content_using_path')['$content']

end for the Email Attachment: variable('AttachmentsArray')

What do I need to change, so that I can open the send excel files?

Thanks!

The keys in the Append to Array variable statements should be name and contentBytes, not name and $content.  Also make sure you remove and rebuild the actions where you are working with the files after you open it in the legacy editor.

✔️Thank you - worked like a peach!

Hi @Pstork1

I am encountering the same issue (the attached Excel file that is sent by email cannot be opened), but there is no option to go back to the legacy editor now, no button available anymore to go back to the legacy design, 1/18/2024. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix this issue?

and in case you can not switch it, edit in the link the end "...."v3=true to v3=false
