Send email with embedded image from sharepoint thumbnail column

Hello guys,

I have been trying to create a flow capable of getting images from a SharePoint image column and embed this image in a email body on Outlook.

I have been following this tutorial and I have many difficulties, and after many posts I finally got to the final product with the help of you guys, but now, Outlook will not allow me to see the image, it does not appear on the email, it just says:

"The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location".

This is my flow:

hugofasima_3-1679346247801.png

At the end of my flow this is my HTML code on Send an email (V2) step:

<img style="display:block;" src="data&colon;image/jpg;base64,@{body('Get_file_content_using_path')['$content']}" alt="ImageColumn1" border="0" width="300" height="300">
<br>
<br>
<img src="data&colon;image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUAAAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO9TXL0Y4OHwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==" alt="Red dot" />

hugofasima_1-1679345934200.png

As you can see, the Red dot that comes from an external source does show on the email, but not the image that comes from a SharePoint library. There is something in this method that the Outlook does not "like", and I believe it is the path where the image comes from (a SharePoint library)

I am almost finish with this, and I am already preparing a post once I have the final product. I am explaining everything that happend and that needs to be done by the detail. We need a tool like this one that works properly.

Please help?

Hi @hugofasima ,

Didn't you already run your flow successfully in the first place?
You should use the flow you started with.
You just need to process the image data obtained by Get file content using path action.

I have item() in my formula because I use apply to each action.

Ok, I'll give it a try, and let you know if it works.

Thank you very much

The process looks similar but it is different in many ways, since I have never seen a tutorial doing this but with SharePoint, it would take too much time, and I am not sure if at the end it would work.

Hi @hugofasima ,

From my test, this is just a problem with your image data format. You can try to use DateUri() formula.

Please try:

vdezhilimsft_0-1679378706137.png

vdezhilimsft_4-1679378933433.png

vdezhilimsft_1-1679378735016.png

vdezhilimsft_2-1679378783184.png

dataUri(outputs('Get_file_content_using_path')?['body'])

Thank you so much for replying, I see that it is possible, I really need it, but I couldn't get it to work yet.

I have been trying to do what you do, but I am getting an error on that first function on the "Apply for each", what is that d.results you chose?

I also tried using dataUri() but I still cannot see the image, check this out:

hugofasima_0-1679453143181.png

I didn't get a message saying the linked image cannot be displayed, but still did not show.

Do you mind showing me how you are triggering your flow?

Since I was not able to execute the Apply for each step, I tried without it and got this error at the concat function:

concat(json(item()?['Image_x0028_Type_x003d_image_x00'])?['serverUrl'],json(item()?['Image_x0028_Type_x003d_image_x00'])?['serverRelativeUrl'])

Hi @hugofasima ,

Actually you don't have to follow me every step of the way.
Have you been able to get the data of your picture with Get file content using path action, can you show me the output?

Best Regards,

Dezhi

This is where I am getting an error:

hugofasima_1-1679454941342.png

Clicking on compose:

hugofasima_2-1679454968124.png

Edit mode:

hugofasima_3-1679454986833.png

This is my formula expression:

concat(json(item()?['Image_x0028_Type_x003d_image_x00'])?['serverUrl'],json(item()?['Image_x0028_Type_x003d_image_x00'])?['serverRelativeUrl'])

Ok, so I reverted back to my original flow:

hugofasima_0-1679456927289.png

In my "Get file content using path" right now is exactly like this:

concat('/SiteAssets/Lists/fbd6b324-ae1f-4041-8e21-f1b5a9b3b543/',variables('image1filename'))

This is the output of Get file content

hugofasima_1-1679457076901.png

File Path:

/SiteAssets/Lists/fbd6b324-ae1f-4041-8e21-f1b5a9b3b543/7ca942a1-387f-417b-964e-4ee9e9dc8ed9.jpeg

Output is a massive code

And I cannot believe it

IT WORKS!
hugofasima_3-1679457938420.png

This is what made it work:

hugofasima_4-1679458082813.png

dataUri(outputs('Get_file_content_using_path')?['body'])

You are an absolute life saver genious @v-dezhili-msft , thank you so much.

I got this to work for a single image from a SharePoint list. How do you get this to work for images in multiple columns though?

I was able to pull multiple pictures through the HTTP request, accurately create the variables for multiple jpg's and use the "get file content using path" multiple times correctly.

My problem is in the datUri function. I can't figure out how to reference multiple 'Get_file_content_using_path'

dataUri(outputs('Get_file_content_using_path')?['body'])
