Hi @jshah,

Do you want to send an email with an Excel file from your OneDriver as attachment?

I agree with @ScottShearer's thought almost, I have made a test on my side and please take a try with the following workaround:

  • Add a proper trigger, here I use Flow Button trigger.
  • Add a "Get file metadata" action, File field set to a specific file that you want to send as email attachment.
  • Add a "Get file content" action, File field set to Id dynamic content of the "Get file metadata" action.
  • Add a "Send an email" action, Attachments Name -1 field set to Display name dynamic content of the "Get file metadata" action, Attachments Content -1 field set to File content dynamic content of the "Get file content" action.

The flow works successfully as below:7.JPG

Actually there is no option to attach excel file in email. If you could send some sample screenshot on how to send an email with excel as attachment that would be helpful.

My excel file is on one drive.

thanks.

I believe what you are trying to do is use the "For a selected file" trigger to attach the selected file to an email.  This is not available in the consumer/free version of OneDrive but is available in OneDrive for Business.  I don't know if there are plans to add this capability to the consumer version of OneDrive.

If what you want to do is to send an email with a file attached when that file is created or modified, that capability is currently available.

The  screen shot below uses a OneDrive and Outlook (consumer version) connection.

I can send an email containing an excel file. but I am trying to send the mail only when a row is updated or modified in the excel file in the cloud. so, in that case what would be my approach and how do I trigger this action?

thanks in advance. It would be very helpful if you share your ideas.

the task is : using Power Automate to send an email with an Excel file attachment to a specific person when a new row is added to a spreadsheet.

Hello,

I have an issue where the file output is corrupt. Is there a fix for this?

Does anyone solved this?

Hopefully i am getting the issue right here,

When an email is sent with an attachment from the power flow the email that arrives contains the appropriate attachment with the correct name but when the attachment is opened it is in an "unsupported format" or "corrupt", what i found was the automatic correction made in the PowerFlow schema is causing the issue.

email received.JPG

error message.JPG

To fix the issue i did the following,

use the described steps above to get the File name and the contents. (Get File Metadata and Get File Contents -as suggested by Community Support Team _ Kris Dai)

Email.JPG

Then click on the save Button to save the flow. This will update the "Attachments" Panel and display in the "input entire array" mode.

Attachments.JPG

Once here you need to remove the exclamation marks that are around your "ContentBytes" input as this is forcing the attachment to be interpreted as something else.

fixed content.JPG

i noticed the file size received after this change was significantly smaller.

resolved email.JPG

But the file opens correctly with no error messages and the contents are aligned correctly.

I hope this helps all. Please mark as Solved if this helps you resolve your issue and please give Kudos to push the solution up for others to use.

Please see my reply to Vishnu0312 below

I assume you are asking what trigger to use here when you want to launch your actions. This would depend on exactly where your file is located that you want to watch for a new row being added. however i would be more included to use a "When a file is modified" trigger pointing to the correct location of the file.

This is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you @TheUnspokenGame for posting the solution here. I went through a lot of solutions but no one addressed this issue. I think most of the time people just assumed that if an email was sent, the file could be opened and did not test the file output.
