Struggling to get an image from sharepoint

Hi

I am trying to get an image from a Sharepoint list. I've been following this process https://torbenp.com/2022/07/get-sharepoint-list-image-in-power-automate/  however i am experiencing some errors.

2024-02-06 12_51_01-flow.png

1. The "Send https" function is working correctly giving the { "d"{ "photo".......}} output.

2. The Parse Json has the following schema:

{
    "type": "object",
    "properties": {
        "type": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "fileName": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "nativeFile": {
            "type": "object"
        },
        "fieldName": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "serverUrl": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "fieldId": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "serverRelativeUrl": {
            "type": "string"
        },
        "id": {
            "type": "string"
        }
    }
}

I originally struggled with this only returning the body of Send https which didn't include things such as the serverURL etc. I now have it returning the same output as Send https.

3. This point is where i get stuck. I have added another Parse Json at one point, as a test before the Get file content but that returns all values as Null. I have also tried following the guide exactly via copy and paste and changing my parameters but that is also throwing an error.

90% of the errors I experience are along these lines:

Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Get_file_content' inputs at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language function 'replace' expects its first parameter 'string' to be a string. The provided value is of type 'Null'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#replace for usage details.'.

However from the results of step 2 I know that none of the values are Null so i am stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi Guys,

Thank you both so much, I have it all working!!

I worked it down to multiple issues: The missing type d in the Json. The video that was tagged was also really help with needing to add the 2nd Json. Another issue what how I was adding it into the Get File Content where I was using the wrong formula.

Hey @BR-UKPS - Your Endpoint looks correct -

i.e.  _api/lists/getbytitle(‘<your_list_name>’)/items(1)/<your_column_name>

Can you please review my blog(which includes a video) at - https://clavinfernandes.wordpress.com/2024/02/05/get-picture-from-sharepoint-image-column-using-powe...

Hi @BR-UKPS,

It looks like you are using a different schema in the parse json action compared to the author of the article.

The 'd' property is missing in your schema.

Can you try and use the below schema instead (the same as in the article)?

{
    "type": "object",
    "properties": {
        "d": {
            "type": "object",
            "properties": {
                "Photo": {
                    "type": "string"
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

Hi @Expiscornovus  and @CFernandes

I have changed my Json to

{
  "type": "object",
  "properties": {
    "d": {
      "type": "object",
      "properties": {
        "Photo": {
          "type": [
            "string",
            "null"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

So it has both d and the Null filtering however i am now experiencing a new error :

Empty path given
clientRequestId:

I'm going to keep playing around with the Get File content function, but any ideas?

Many thanks!!

@BR-UKPS When you try to hit the same endpoint in browser what does it return? I get the below.

CFernandes_3-1707229083137.png

I also ended up Parsing JSON twice as Profilepicture returned me a string rather than an object... The same is documented in the blog/video.

Hi @CFernandes,

In my dev setup that HTTP request only returns the filename property, no serverrelative url or any other property is returned for the Thumbnail type of column. Like you already mentioned, maybe that is also the case for @BR-UKPS?

photo_thumbnail.png

It does look like the Thumbnail type of images are also stored as attachments. Which means you can also use the setup below as well.

I had a working flow which used to output severerelativeurl. But suddenly its only giving filename. @BR-UKPS how did you solve this issue. Any suggestion? I feel there was an update from Microsoft.

If you create a variable for testing and set the variable to the output of your flow, you'll be able to see everything being returned from the Json. If your not seeing the serverrelativeurl in the veriable but you know it's being returned in the send Https then its an issue with the Json.

Thanks for your reply. My Http request end point looks like this where I only select the Image_Column

_api/Lists/getByTitle('Plant_WS_Checked_Items')/items?$filter=ID eq '4992' &$select=Item_Image

Then my response looks like this, where the image column returns fileName only ☹️.

{
  "d": {
    "results": [
      {
        "__metadata": {
          "id": "5cbb7f34-a1da-441b-9eae-7d4ed7e5c342",
          "uri": "https://xxxxs.sharepoint.com/sites/SiteName/_api/Web/Lists(guid'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx')/Items(4992)",
          "etag": "\"4\"",
          "type": "SP.Data.Plant_x005f_WS_x005f_Checked_x005f_ItemsListItem"
        },
        "Item_Image": "{\"fileName\":\"Reserved_ImageAttachment_[10]_[Item_Image][36]_[f475a050-e133-46c8-ac58-f7cd1874a87b][1]_[1].jpeg\"}"
      }
    ]
  }
}

It was working fine all this time, but just started failing. When I created the flow last year, image column would return all the below fields which I have in Parse JSON.

{
  "type": "object",
  "properties": {
      "type": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "fileName": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "nativeFile": {
          "type": "object",
          "properties": {}
      },
      "fieldName": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "serverUrl": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "fieldId": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "serverRelativeUrl": {
          "type": "string"
      },
      "id": {
          "type": "string"
      }
  }
}

@ahmednaseem Your URL in this case should be - I think its treating it as an attachment.

/Lists/Site/attachments/<ID>/<FileName>

@ahmednaseem my thoughts are along the same lines as @CFernandes

_api/Web/Lists/getbytitle('tbl_1')/Items(@{outputs('Get_item')?['body/ID']})/Photo0

Mine sits like this so I'm using a variable with the item ID. Your Json looks good.
