Trouble updating record with a lookup field data

Hi all,

I created a flow to update some fields whenever a new record is created in a specific entity. There is some trouble with one lookup field, which I suppose to be filling with the GUID value from the related entity. Whenever I leave this field blank in the "update record" step, the flow works just fine, so the problem is only with this field.

This is the flow structure:

MarceloBarroso_0-1599932081712.png

  1. When a record is created in entity "Contracts"
  2. Get a record in entity "Payment scheme"
  3. Update the record in entity "Contracts"
** I am doing this in order to fix the data within the Contract record; I do not want to keep alive the relationship with the payment scheme entity, because this could change in the future, but the contract record should keep as when created.
*** However, the problem is happening with another lookup field (related to the "Financial account" entity), whose info (GUID) is pasted from the "Payment scheme" entity.

See the detail of the "update record" step:

I am pushing into both "financial account" lookup fields the GUID value got from the 2nd flow step (payment scheme entity). It is indeed the GUID value, as showed in the image below:

--> The raw data being input into the "update record" step:

However, although all seems correct, I get the error message (this GUID mentioned is the id code for the "financial account" record that should be input into the Contracts entity):

Can someone please help me?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best wishes.

Marcelo.

Hi @MarceloBarroso

Are you using the Common Data Service Current Environment connector? (I guess you are based on the error). In this connector, for lookup values, you cannot directly pass the guid.

For example, if you are getting the user record from a previous action and you want to update that on a record of a different entity by using the update record action, in the lookup field, you need to provide the input as: systemusers/(guidhere)

systemusers is the set name of the entity and you have to pass the parameter in that format only.

You can refer to this post for a better visual: https://www.crmkonsulterna.se/cds-vs-cds-what-connector-should-i-use-in-power-automate/

Hope this Helps!

Hi @yashag2255

Thank you very much for your reply.

At the end, I could make it work, but not with ease.

First, I changed the notation to: "/related_entity(GUID)".

However, this was not the main issue. I had to add an "s" at the entity's name, supposedly to put in the plural. The actual name of the entity is "clth_bank_data", but I had to use "clth_bank_datas". WTH??   Where is this name declared anyway??   It doesn't make sense, seems to be an ugly bug within PowerAutomate that steals a lot of time from us.

(In case you are interested, I got the insight of checking the name used within the connector [actually searching for the "@odata.editLink" reference] by reading this texthttps://daytodaydynamics365.com/referencing-records-when-using-the-common-data-service-current-envir...).

Thank you very much for your help.

Best wishes.
