Using Expression, change the time based on user's location in Power Automate Flow

Hi Everyone,

Any help would be highly appreciated. I am new to Power Automate flows. So, this question might be a bit silly but very useful in my scenario.

I am building a flow where an event gets created or updated on user's Calendar using Graph API. Whenever shifts are generated, the resources' events get created on their outlook calendar. Events are created, however, in the content section, I want to change the start and end time as well based on the time Zone the user/resource is at the moment/ show the same time of the event's start and end time (based on the Time Zone user is at the moment). The resource/users can be in any part of the country so, the time zone must be dynamic based on the location they are in at the moment. I think this is where I am having an issue.

Could anyone please guide me with what expression should be used to meet these criteria?

Below is the screenshot of the flow and the screenshot of the event which gets created in user's/ resource's outlook calendar.

I want to change the time in the content to the time shown in the Start and End time. Start and End time are changed based on the location the user belongs to.

Kindly looking forward to your suggestions.

Thank you 🙂

Dear kyoiku_0723,

Not sure if this will help you, but are you familiar with the action 'Get User'?

This action allows you to get a bunch of details for relevant users, time zone may be included there. Suggest you check it out.

Happy flowing,

Koen

Does the time show correctly on their calendar?

Like are you testing and looking at your calendar and not seeing the correct time based on your time zone? I'm wondering if the user's settings makes a difference in how it is displayed.

Hi @wskinnermctc , Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the calendar is showing the correct time based on my time Zone, and I wanted to include the same time in content section as well, if that makes sense. For instance, according to my time Zone, the shift starts from 13:00 until 21:00. So, I wanted to show this time in content as well.

Dear @Koen5, Thanks very much for your reply.

I am pulling the data from Dataverse, so, does Get Row by ID count as a relevant action? I don't see any 'Get User' action?

Dear Kyoiku,

The action is called 'Get user profile'. But I just checked and do not immediately see the users' timezone.

Maybe you can check the URL, it seems someone had the same question as yourself.

Happy flowing,

Koen

If you send a correctly formatted UTC time (ISO 8602 with "Z" at the end) to the start and end dates of a calendar, it will be displayed correctly according to the calendar settings without messing around with time zones.

But you already knew that. ‌‌😉

For the body part: I don't think you can calculate this reliably, since you not only have to consider time zones, but also daylight saving time, possible local customs (e.g. if the user lives near a time zone border), the user is traveling ...

Thank you @Koen5 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion @Chriddle
